Here, you will find all of the features and opportunities you expect from a top-ranked national university. But the power of a Richmond education comes in everything else we do — the countless endeavors that go beyond the expected, that heighten every aspect of our students' educational experience.
Our interdisciplinary approach integrates arts and sciences with business, leadership studies, and law. We bring together confident students and expert faculty in an environment of both intellectual and personal engagement.
Industry-leading financial aid ensures that talented students of all backgrounds can come together to form a transformative educational environment. And we guarantee every student up to $4,000 for summer research or internship experience. Within one year of graduation, 20 percent of students are enrolled in graduate school. And of those looking for employment, 96 percent landed a job. Richmond is the only University with a spider mascot, and we find that fitting because there is only one place like Richmond.
The mission of the University of Richmond is to sustain a collaborative learning and research community that supports the personal development of its members and the creation of new knowledge. A Richmond education prepares students to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society.
At some universities, experiences like undergraduate research, living-learning communities, close faculty relationships, and fellowship funding are limited to a handful of students — there simply are not enough to go around. That is not what you will find at Richmond. Our smaller size, coupled with opportunities that run deep and wide, means you will spend your time dreaming up ideas and making them happen — not worrying about the competition. Richmond integrates a liberal arts core with a top-ranked school of business and the nation's first school of leadership studies, as well as schools of law and professional and continuing studies — a combination you will not find anywhere else. But it goes deeper than that. When an undergraduate can take a first-year seminar with a law professor or seamlessly pair an economics major with a minor in art history, that is when you will know you are at Richmond.
Richmond is among only 1 percent of institutions in the U.S. with both a "need-blind" admission policy and a guarantee to meet 100 percent of demonstrated need. Forty-two percent of undergraduates are eligible for need-based aid, with an average aid package of $47,970. Plus, all first-year applicants are considered for merit-based aid, including full-tuition scholarships and a variety of interest-based programs.
The Student Development offices work collaboratively to create a dynamic campus community, offer healthy living services, and provide learning resources that build on the classroom experience.
The University of Richmond provides a collaborative learning and research environment unlike any other in higher education, offering students an extraordinary combination of the liberal arts with law, business, leadership studies, and continuing education. It is characterized by a distinctly integrated student experience—a rich and innovative life for students inside and outside the classroom—and a welcoming spirit that prizes diversity of experience and thought. It is rooted in a determination to engage as a meaningful part of our community and our world. It is committed to ensuring its opportunities are accessible to talented students of all backgrounds.
The University will provide students the knowledge, insight, and skills needed to understand, contribute to, and lead in a rapidly changing world. It will embrace and support the production of high-quality scholarship.
A University of Richmond education will stimulate intellectual and personal growth, connect theory with practice, and offer the liberal arts' inspiration and the ability to approach problems thoughtfully, critically, ethically, and creatively. Every undergraduate student will have the opportunity to enter into an intellectually engaging first-year experience based on the University's values ascend through living-learning, community-based, and international exposure and pursue faculty-mentored research and internships to graduate enriched and fully prepared for challenging and fulfilling lives. A Richmond education will chart a course for transformational learning from student acceptance to graduation in every school. That education will take place within a vibrant intellectual community that supports high-quality scholarly and creative work and engages students as active partners in that work.
The University of Richmond will be a leader in innovative practices that sustain our environmental, human, and financial resources. The future health and vibrancy of the University — like all institutions of higher education — rest on our shared commitment to steward our vital resources: the environment on which we all depend, funds for our needs and aspirations, and the faculty, staff, student, and alumni relationships that form the core of our educational model.
Responsible stewardship will enable us to support our academic aspirations better and will enrich our intellectual community. In response to emerging environmental and financial challenges, we will imagine and implement new approaches to our work that support our mission's sustainability and serve as a model for other institutions.
