At Greenhill, our students are curious, inquisitive learners. They are steadfast in their quests to gain knowledge and wisdom, always seeking to deepen their understanding of our world. Our dedicated faculty members nurture each student's strengths and talents, instilling the confidence to take risks and the tenacity to achieve their aspirational goals.
As our students grow and strive, so, too, does Greenhill. We are continually enhancing our academics, arts, and athletics programs, incorporating the latest research on how students learn, perform, and practice most effectively. We also ensure that each of our programs offers the foundational skills to support our students during their time with us and in the years to follow.
Since our founding in 1950, Greenhill has valued inclusivity. Our School is a dynamic blend of cultures, backgrounds, and genders, and we appreciate each member of our community's unique gifts. Our faculty purposefully integrates the art of civil discourse into daily learning, teaching students how to converse with honor, respect, and compassion.
Greenhill School is a diverse community of learners that strives for excellence, values individuality fosters a passion for learning, promotes the balanced development of mind, body, and character, encourages service, and instills respect for others. In adopting these core principles, honor, respect, and compassion, the Greenhill community affirms character development as an essential and ever-present element of its mission. Commitment to this ideal will guide the School's decisions and permeate all areas of Greenhill life. All members of the community will strive to model the behavior and attitudes we wish others to adopt. Moreover, we will recognize and highlight behaviors and attitudes that can serve as models for the entire Greenhill community.
The School will utilize its existing resources and programs to promote its character statement and initiatives in school publications and parent, Board, and faculty meetings. To keep the core principles at the forefront of the Greenhill community, each year, the School will focus on one of the three core principles: honor, respect, and compassion.
As the region's first co-educational independent School, Greenhill School provides exceptional academic achievement opportunities, intellectual growth, artistic fulfillment, physical development, moral awareness, and community engagement. The School brings together diverse students of distinct abilities teachers with expertise in their disciplines and child development. This dynamic curriculum embraces the liberal arts and sciences, fine arts, and athletics and a steadfast commitment to equity and inclusion.
Greenhill's program is organized into four divisions (Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School), utilizing an integrated curriculum that provides a spectrum of learning opportunities. To achieve educational excellence and foster intellectual engagement, the program incorporates a full range of teaching styles, learning activities, and assessments, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration to facilitate student learning and development. Fine arts and athletics are integral to the Greenhill experience. Activities in sports and the arts encourage discovering new ways to learn and grow, develop vital skills, and establish lasting relationships. Greenhill expects graduates to be highly competent in all curriculum domains, fully prepared for the academic rigors of college, and filled with enthusiasm for lifelong learning, friendship, and service. Students not only gain from Greenhill's stimulating environment but also contribute to the learning process. They engage in a vast array of activities inside and outside the classroom, pursuing their passions and interests. These collective educational experiences foster confidence, creativity, independence, responsibility, intellectual and moral integrity, and generous engagement with life both within and beyond our school community. Besides, because the Greenhill community seeks and embraces diverse perspectives and experiences, Greenhill students respect themselves and others. As such, the School affirms its role as an inclusive community committed to the core principles of honor, respect, and compassion. Greenhill believes these principles are the essence of its mission.
Greenhill's diverse faculty is exceptional in the breadth and depth of its experience and its enthusiasm for teaching. The faculty is the heart of the School. At every level, Greenhill's teachers are learning specialists who establish standards of excellence and give students the tools and encouragement to succeed. Teachers establish relationships with students encouraging a healthy and balanced pursuit of Greenhill's myriad learning opportunities. Teachers strive for cross-cultural competence to address the needs of their students and families. This essential relationship is fostered in the classroom where the teaching is personal, creative, and inspiring and extends beyond the classroom into the full community's life.
In our intentionally diverse community, Greenhill nurtures self-confidence and respect for others from day one. In Preschool and Lower School, students learn to embrace the unique gifts that each person brings to the classroom. By Middle and Upper School, when students understand that the person sitting next to them may react differently to a text or offer a distinct perspective, learning becomes exponentially more meaningful.
