Technology and Venture Commercialization (formerly the Technology Commercialization Office) manages the U's intellectual property and works with new and established companies to develop technologies. The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is the home base for student entrepreneur programs at the U. Programs include student business plan competitions, innovation courses, internships, and commercialization opportunities.
The Entrepreneurial Faculty Scholars program brings together innovative faculty at the U, who share the shared dedication to motivating and enriching faculty and student entrepreneurs' translational experience. Medical doctors and students interested in innovation have a one-stop-shop for resources at the Center for Medical Innovation. It serves as an information and gathering hub for faculty, students, and industry in the health sciences.
The College of Engineering, with the Utah Nanofabrication Laboratory, established the Center for Engineering Innovation. It bridges the gap between basic science and engineering innovation and commercial product development. The new Corporate Concierge Program at the University of Utah is working to help community partners leverage the entire set of capabilities at the U. The program helps coordinate everything from scholarships and internships to sponsored research and entrepreneurship.
The Vice President for Research office at the U oversees many research and related activities across campus, including commercialization, compliance, and education. The office also manages many related institutes, centers, and initiatives. The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) was established in 1967 at the University of Utah. Its mission is to enhance research by providing service and support to administration, faculty, and staff to secure and manage external funding for university activities. The University of Utah also has many more innovative partners across campus. Developing inventions and making a positive impact is a broad effort that includes countless people and organizations.
Since 1965, TVC has established a global reputation for leadership in technology commercialization. On behalf of the University of Utah, TVC catalyzes the regional ecosystem, responsible for all aspects of invention management, patent prosecution, licensing, startup formation and support, equity management, and early-stage funding.
The arts at the University of Utah are abundant and diverse as they are accessible. Between the five academic units in the College of Fine Arts and the three professional arts organizations (Utah Museum of Fine Arts, UtahPresents, and Pioneer Theatre Company), there are hundreds of plays, performances, exhibits, concerts, film screenings, and chances to interact with local and international artists every year.
The best part is that students can use their Card to get free or nearly-free tickets to engaging, entertaining, curiosity-piquing, creativity-catalyzing events through the U's Arts Pass program. Why? Because more and more research is showing the positive impacts of the arts on education. The findings are significant: exposure to the arts is linked with better critical thinking skills, more generous social tolerance, a greater likelihood of seeking out art and culture in the future, and better workforce opportunities. Maybe that's why we've issued more than 100,000 Arts Pass tickets.

Professional artists of all kinds visit the U each year to lecture, tutor, create, and perform. The campus is home to various venues, ranging from the small and intimate to the spacious and grand, where the arts are enjoyed and nourished.
Research is a significant component in the life of the U, benefiting students, and the region. The University of Utah is ranked 47th in the U.S. and 87th globally in the 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Research Education offers professional development opportunities for all faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and university research community members. The RATS program provides specialized tracks of instruction in the Pre-Award, Post-Award, and Clinical Research areas and Research Investigator and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training. Continuing education credits and Certificates of Achievement are also available.
