Brest State University, named after A.S. Pushkin, is a contemporary of the Great Victory. The university status preconditioned modifications in the quality of teaching and research and educational work. In the year 2015, BrSU celebrated its 70th anniversary. Today Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin, is the largest educational institution in Brest region, a center of scientific research and cultural life of west Polesye. It has its anthem, flag, and emblem.
Higher education is one of the stages of the necessary educational process aimed at the development of a student's individuality, his intellectual and creative skills, as well as providing him with specialized theoretical and practical training ending up in the acquisition of the qualification of a degree specialist (Master's degree.)
The 1st level of Higher education consists of training specialists who possess fundamental and subject-specific knowledge and skills, which results in the acquisition of a degree specialist qualification.
The 1st level of higher education is based on the educational program of the 1st level of higher education, which enables acquisition of the qualification of a degree specialist, as well as on the educational program of the 1st level of higher education, which enables acquisition of the qualification of a degree specialist and which is integrated with the educational programs of specialized secondary education.
The 1st level of higher education gives the right to proceed to the 2nd level of higher education and become employed following the acquired specialty (field, specialization) and conferred qualification.
Ideological and educational activity at BrSU named after A.S. Pushkin is based on Belarusian national ideology's ideas and values as a system of beliefs consistent with the objectives and peculiarities of Belarusian way of socio-economic and social development. Special attention in the ideological and educational activity of BrSU named after A.S. Pushkin is paid to preserving the old and establishing new traditions. To achieve this objective, the University holds several various events: a celebratory assembly of 1st-year students initiation of freshmen into students the University Day "Believe in yourself!" contest (to the title "Student of the Year"), volunteer meeting, student art festival "Student Spring" tourist meeting, sports ceremony, student groups meeting, the open contest of reciters "The Mystery of Word and Thought" open oratory contest "Speech Master" "The Last Bell" ceremony for graduates and much more events.
The University has its own publishing house with a printing facility, which allows publishing textbooks, manuals, and monographic treatises, as well as collections of teachers' and students' research works. The periodic editions include "Vestnik Brestskogo Universiteta" academic journal, "Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin scientific papers" research work collection, "Berastejsky Universitet" newspaper. The University library numbers about 800 thousand copies and provides a digital catalog of the library stock.
On April 13, 2017, the solemn ceremony of awarding the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in the field of quality was held in the National Library of Belarus by Prime Minister Andrei V. Kobyakov. The Commission for awarding Belarus Government Quality Excellence Prize decided to name ten organizations of the republic as the winners of the 2016 award, among which there was Educational Establishment "Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin." Furthermore, the award has been given to 16 organizations that received it in previous years, one company got a diploma, and three organizations were honored with special prizes.
The University occupies three academic buildings, with four halls of residence, a sports complex with a swimming pool, a library, museums of biology, ethnography, geology, history of physical culture and sport in Brest region, a winter garden, a perennial florescence garden, agrobiological research, and sports and fitness facilities. The departments are equipped with media centers. All university buildings provide wireless internet access. The information, analysis and innovations department, department of international affairs, a shopping center, "UniverTour" travel center, etc. Students are provided with accommodation facilities in one of the University's halls of residence at extra cost. Meals are arranged in one out of 4 canteens of the University at extra cost. Upon request, an international student can be accommodated in a city hotel and have meals in city restaurants. "UniverTour" (BrSU's Tourism Department) offers a foreign student different excursion programs during their training course period. The programs include visits to the University's museums, sightseeing tours to the places of interest and historical monuments both of Brest and Belarus.
Our University is well-known abroad due to its cooperation (teacher and student exchanges, joint scientific events, and cultural projects) with numerous partner institutions of higher education in CIS and other countries: the University of Education in Weingarten (Germany), Higher Pedagogical School in Kreuzlingen (Switzerland), Maria Skłodowska-Curie University in Lublin (Poland), East European National University after Lesya Ukrainka, Smolensk State Pedagogical University and Bryansk State University (Russia), the University of Xiaogan Province and Hohhot Vocational College (China), Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), Budapest University (Hungary). International cooperation contributes to the training quality, providing university students with the opportunity to study abroad.
More than 500 international students from Turkmenistan, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Germany, Poland, the USA, Ukraine, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, and Russia study at the University.Brest State University, named after A.S.Pushkin, offers foreign citizens a training course "Russian as a Foreign Language." Students from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, and Lithuania have already taken the course. The duration of the study is from 1 to 4 weeks (20 hours per week). Upon request, a training course lasting over one month can be organized. Classes are held from Monday till Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are days off.
