Southern Adventist University is a co-education institution established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, offering doctoral, master's, baccalaureate, associate degrees, and one-year certificates.
Southern Adventist University nurtures Christlikeness, traditional Seventh-day Adventist values, academic excellence, and a lifelong pursuit of truth, wholeness, and service.
Southern Adventist University will lead in providing a learning foundation built upon biblical principles, model academic and professional excellence, conscientiously steward university resources, and cost-effectively graduate successful servant leaders guided by faith, integrity, and balance.
We assist faculty in navigating the digital landscape through a variety of technology-rich instructional approaches as it emerges. With evidence from continued research and application, our team works with professors to identify and implement best practices for integrating technology and enhancing the learning experience to impact teaching and learn both in the traditional classroom and online.
Additionally, we help professors create visual supports that are dynamic and interactive, building assets, and content resources to enhance the learning experience. Pathways that promote active participation in Southern's learning community are created by developing teacher presence, social presence, and cognitive presence.
By studying in a foreign country, you can earn college credit while gaining a global perspective (and, we suspect, many great memories). Students who choose this option are often pursuing a major or minor in a modern language, but that is not a requirement.
Disability Support Services (DSS) facilitates equal access to Southern's learning community for students who have documented disabilities or suspected learning differences. DSS promotes student responsibility and self-advocacy and provides relevant information to faculty and staff with Christ-like support and compassion.
Southern Adventist University is committed to providing every student the opportunity to obtain a Christian education. Financial aid is available to qualified recipients in grants, scholarships, loans, and Federal Work-Study opportunities.
In 1892, Professor George Colcord and his wife, Ada, started Graysville Academy in Graysville, Tennessee, where 23 students enrolled that first year.
In November 1897, the school's name was changed to Southern Industrial School, and in 1901, it was changed again to Southern Training School.
In 1915, the women's dorm burned. While no lives were lost, school officials decided to move, and the following year, the school board bought a piece of property called Thatcher Switch and named it Collegedale.
Southern Adventist University continues to move forward and expand its influence and educate with strong Christian beliefs and a Christ-centered worldview. History is still being written.
