San Jose State is conveniently located on 154 acres in downtown San Jose, midway between San Francisco and the Monterey/Carmel area at the San Francisco Bay's sunny southern end. It is easily accessible from area freeways. From its beginnings as a regular school that trained teachers for the developing frontier, SJSU has matured into a metropolitan university offering more than 145 areas of study with an additional 108 concentrations.
You are a domestic or international applicant who has earned a bachelor's degree and want to pursue a master's degree from one of our graduate programs. You have earned a bachelor's degree and would like to return to college for another. Unfortunately, we currently do not accept students pursuing a second bachelor's degree except for students pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing.

On a typical day, molecular biology major Nikki Nguyen sets up her experiments in a cancer biology lab. Before removing her T-75 flask from the incubator, Nguyen sprays her bottles with 70 percent ethanol and then distributes it with Kimwipes. Sterilizing and working under a laminar flow hood ensures that the research team does not contaminate the spindle-shaped breast cancer cells. They don't want to chance to start over.
Through the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute SCRIBe Undergraduate Research Program, a partnership between San Jose State's biology department and HHMI, Nguyen gets to engage in cutting-edge, independent research in a molecular biology lab. At most large research universities, participation in faculty research is the domain of graduate students. At San Jose State, undergraduate students frequently work alongside their professors doing cutting-edge research.
