Saybrook University is unique in that across all our schools and departments; our mission is passionate. One of the key reasons I was drawn to the institution like so many of you, was the apparent commitment to SU’s mission and goals, all rooted in humanistic inquiry, personal and social transformation.
Furthermore, in my mind, what sets us apart in the higher education landscape is that our students, faculty, and staff all have a deep desire to make a sincere, positive difference both in ourselves and the communities we serve.
Engagement will be a crucial ingredient as we seek to position Saybrook as a truly excellent place to learn and work. As such, this year, I will be challenging all of us to open channels of communication among alumni, faculty, students, and staff to work within our communities in which we strive for even more in-depth discussion and action as it relates to both transformative scholarship and application and, delivering first-rate academic services to our students, services that demonstrate to you – our primary constituents – that we are truly dedicated to you.
Saybrook University is proud of its history of more than 40 years of applying humanistic principles to the world’s problems. That means that we believe the human experience and human potential are the essential parts of education and engagement with the world. Whether you are studying psychology, mind-body medicine, organizational systems, or leadership at Saybrook, the emphasis is on creating experiences and systems that bring out the best in people and encourage human potential.
That is something we are passionate about, and we bring that passion to the world: from providing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder to civilians in war zones to developing new programs for companies that want to become socially responsible, our faculty, students, and alumni are actively engaged in creating a more just, humane, and sustainable world through both scholarship and activism. Saybrook University’s certificate programs offer a variety of topics relevant to today’s world. These certificates are available to non-degree students (although degree-seeking students also have the option of completing them as part of their existing coursework without additional cost). Tuition and fees are due in full before the start of the semester.
Some courses offered through the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences require one or two-day attendance at the Residential Conference held at the beginning of the semester. Please see above for Residential Conference costs and contact your Admissions Counselor for specifics on which courses require conference attendance. All tuition and fees are subject to change.
Deciding to attend graduate school is a big step. It requires commitment, time, life changes, and let us face it — money. Saybrook is committed to helping you find ways to invest in yourself and your future. Our Counseling students and alumni are instrumental leaders in working with those seeking to deepen the purpose and meaning of their lives, those who are incarcerated or on parole, those struggling with chronic illness and substance abuse, emergency first-responders returning veterans, and their families.
A pioneer since the 1970s, Saybrook was one of the first institutions in the U.S. to adopt a hybrid online learning model of education, allowing students to earn an online graduate degree in psychology, leadership and management, counseling, and various other social-focused sciences that emphasize working towards a humane and sustainable world. We believe a holistic graduate education necessarily includes the professional and personal lives of our students. To help our students continue to find new experiences in their own lives that can be applied to what they learn in the classroom, nearly all of our Master’s and Ph.D. graduate degree programs include online learning blended with the low-residency study. Saybrook’s hybrid online learning model allows students to dedicate themselves to success and service in their community without having to leave it.
Students become part of a dynamic online learning community through our distance learning courses and engage in face-to-face instruction with experienced faculty at residential conferences held at various locations. The exact mix of online learning and in-person instruction depends upon the department, degree program, and residency requirements. All of our online degree programs are designed to accommodate working professionals without requiring them to relocate.
