EduCativ
The University College of Teacher Education-Carinthia offers scientifically founded, career-relevant educational opportunities for people in pedagogical career fields, especially teachers. It stands for continuing professionalization in education and continuing education, consistently taking into account gender mainstreaming. The University College of Teacher Education-Carinthia conducts research and research-led teaching, whose research mandate is aimed at all areas of the organization. Research is conducted in project teams in cooperation with foreign and domestic educational institutes, in particular universities. Students are included in the research process. The University College of Teacher Education offers target group-oriented advising for people and organizations in the educational field with an emphasis on (subject-oriented) school and lesson development, coaching for leaders, and supervision. As a University College of Teacher Education in the Alps-Adriatic region, we are committed to intercultural education with an international aspiration. This is made clear by the Institute for Multilingualism and Intercultural Education (Mehrsprachigkeit und inter-kultureller Bildung). Intercultural pedagogy in the fields of language didactics/multilingualism, global learning, migration, and global citizenship is a central focus of our education and research. The multilingualism and mobility of our students, teachers, and administrative personnel, expressed in diverse educational cooperations, are a natural part of our work. Because of the historical and cultural situation of Carinthia, the Slovenian language is essential in research, as well as in the education and continuing education of teachers for minority school systems. The same applies to the continuing education of all educators. Didactics for primary educations have a high priority in research and development as well as in the field of pre-primary education in synergy with the AECC’s mathematics and German programs at the Alps-Adriatic University of Klagenfurt. We are the core educational institution for student-teacher training and the professional development and advanced training of teachers. We qualify human beings and develop systems in the area of education. Our orientation focuses on a humanistic worldview and idea of humanity, whose focus is on the individual, their awareness, and their developmental needs. Our guiding light is the meaning-centered idea of man by Viktor Frankl. Specifically, the human is “the spiritual dimension of man.” It is the basis of free decisions of the human will. The result of this paradigm is the ability to judge situations and occurrences, which results in taking up responsibility for our actions. The spiritual dimension is the source of interest in cognition and art, feelings of ethics, social experience, awareness, and understanding of values. Our University College of Teacher Education is a place for meeting one another and for academic discourse. We are concerned with the whole human being; we turn to the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions. Appreciation means for our respect, approval, acceptance, and care. We perceive our mission as serving humanity. Our professionalism becomes visible by our competence in subject matters as well as in methods. Reliability, transparency, constant development of our organization and quality are the pillars of our work. We perceive student teacher training, professional development, and continuing education of teachers as a continuing process of professionalism. We live the principle of life-long learning and promote life-long learning processes as an expression of human needs for further development. We live variety in terms of languages and cultures. We promote regional and international cooperation and networks. The assignment to do research is geared towards all teachers as well as students who are to be included in research processes. Our teaching is based on research, and our research is recognized internationally. Fields of our research include teacher training and classroom practice. We take responsibility for our decisions and actions, which are based on reason and values. We use our working time wisely and independently, which is a factor for feeling joy while working.
