Since opening its doors more than 80 years ago, Palm Beach State College has been an integral player in the remarkable growth and prosperity of Palm Beach County. Our graduates - community and business leaders for generations - have impacted every industry and continue to do so today.
Founded in 1933 as Florida's first public community college, Palm Beach State has grown from three classrooms and 41 local students to five campuses and 49,000 students from more than 158 countries. One of the top producers of associate degree graduates in the U.S., PBSC also offers baccalaureate degrees, professional certificates, career training, and corporate and continuing education.
Through the years, Palm Beach State College has expanded its mission, programs, and reach to become the largest institution of higher education in Palm Beach County and the fourth largest (based on FTE) of the 28 colleges in the Florida College System. Each year, more Palm Beach County high school graduates choose PBSC than any other institution. Students enroll at campus locations in Lake Worth, Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Belle Glade, and Loxahatchee Groves and take courses online.
Palm Beach State offers education pathways as diverse as its students. The College's close working relationship with local business partners has ensured that the mix of programs reflects current trends and workforce demands.
Palm Beach State College was established to serve the educational needs of residents striving to overcome the Great Depression's economic challenges. Today it is an economic engine, pumping $1.1 billion into the Palm Beach County economy each year, according to a 2013 study by Economic Modeling Specialists International.

In keeping with the mission of Palm Beach State College, the purpose of the Honors College is to provide a challenging and supportive academic environment. Encourage students to think critically, demonstrate leadership, and develop ethical standards. Allow students to pursues an interactive learning experience. Provide students with a creative and comprehensive understanding of concepts in an interdisciplinary and global context.
Honors students and faculty share a commitment and civic responsibility beyond the classroom to local, national, and international communities.
Online courses and degrees are great for motivated, self-disciplined students whose schedules do not permit them to attend regularly scheduled on-campus course meetings, or for those who like the convenience of a blend of on-campus and online learning.
The Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness (IRE) forms a vital part of Palm Beach State College's accountability and planning efforts at the District-wide level. Serving under Academic Affairs, IRE acts as Palm Beach State's institutional research and strategic planning office.
Palm Beach State offers a wide range of scholarships for students. Merit-based scholarships are usually awarded based on scholastic ability, talent, area of study, or leadership potential. Others, known as need-based scholarships, are awarded based on financial need.
Palm Beach State College, Florida's first public community college, celebrated its 80th anniversary throughout 2013. From its humble beginnings in 1933 with 41 students in a building next to Palm Beach High School, Palm Beach State College has grown to become the largest higher education institution in Palm Beach County. Currently serving 49,000 students annually, the College offers classes at five locations.
Over time, the College's mission has become more comprehensive to serve Palm Beach County residents' educational needs. Palm Beach State College now offers bachelor's and associate degrees, professional certificates, workforce development, and lifelong learning.
