The University of Education Burgenland is responsible for cross-border education and professionalization processes of educators. Scientific findings from the basis as well as social and educational challenges. The linguistic and cultural diversity of Burgenland is given special consideration. In the sense of a vocational biographical continuum of Education, teacher training students, teachers in elementary, primary, and secondary Education, as well as managers of the education system, are qualified and promoted. Besides, the College of Education initiates and accompanies the development processes of educational institutions and regions.

The Institute for Education, incl School Practical Studies, ensures the planning, organization, and execution of a regulated study operation of study programs necessary in the context of the teacher training for compulsory schools. Also, courses and higher education courses are offered to obtain additional qualifications, with particular emphasis on teaching qualifications for Croatian and Hungarian (Romanises if required). Furthermore, the planning, organization, and implementation of the practical school studies of all supervised courses of study belong to the institute's tasks.

The "New Learning Culture" is revealed in the individual courses as well as in the fact that entire modules are dedicated to this focus. eLearning and media education are also firmly anchored in the modules. Courses for Croatian and Hungarian express the intensive engagement with the focus on multilingualism and intercultural Education as well as the increased mobility of students and teachers. The work on this focus is visible across borders through numerous collaborations.

The co-ordination of the emphasis of the training and that of the practical school work is determining the quality of the teacher training at the private educational university Burgenland. Based on the principle of unity of teaching and research, students should acquire a questioning attitude relevant to the responsible profession of teachers for lifelong learning.

The implementation of a new learning culture of independent, self-organized, and self-responsible learning is implemented, tested, and evaluated in the area of student education and primary school.

The meaningful and purposeful use of new media thereby serves the future-oriented design of the lessons. It thereby enables the competence to implement these media in the future also education-oriented.

On the multicultural basis of Burgenland, multilingualism and intercultural Education should prepare our pupils and students for life in an open and united Europe and prepare them with the necessary skills for a self-determined and self-organized life.

The library of the College of Education Burgenland is designed according to scientific criteria. Increased attention is paid to the expansion of the stock in the direction of multilingualism. Another focus will be on humanities and media education.

The library currently has about 30,000 book copies and 71 journals. Furthermore, a comprehensive media library is available, offering prepared materials on different media for special topics relevant to teaching.

Based on the Higher Education Act 2005, which stipulates that " scientifically sound career-related educational offers " must be developed and implemented at Universities of Education (Hochschulgesetz 2005, § 8, Abs. 1), a competence center for applied research and development was established at the Burgenland University of Education furnished.

The center of excellence sees itself as a service facility for the Burgenland University of Education staff and pursues the goal of initiating and promoting research-related occupational research activities at the Burgenland University of Teacher Education.

At the Pedagogical University Burgenland, various research and development projects are currently being implemented, which can be located in the thematic priorities of the Pedagogical University of Burgenland.

  • Projects in the field of the new learning culture: The new learning culture starts with the learner and his responsibility for the own learning process. Within the framework of research and development projects, insights regarding the differentiation and individualization of teaching should be gained and harnessed by the teacher education in the individual institutes for school practice.
  • Projects in e-learning and media education: The interactive media poses a challenge for teaching and school. Current media developments that can be captured and used in a pedagogically meaningful way are central questions of the current research interest.
  • Projects in the area of multilingualism and intercultural Education: The history and structure of Burgenland show what opportunities and potentials can arise through multilingualism, interculturalism, and learning. Different research and development projects are dedicated to this topic.
