The University of Southern Denmark welcomed the first students onto the campus in Odense in September 1966, and things have been developing by leaps and bounds ever since. We now have five faculties with more than 32,000 students, almost 20% of whom are from abroad, and more than 4,000 employees distributed across our main campus in Odense and regional campuses in Slagelse, Kolding, Esbjerg, and Sønderborg. Several international studies document that we conduct world-class research and are among the top fifty young universities in the world.
Over the years, the University of Southern Denmark has interwoven many lives. The roughly five years in which a student invests in a university education will lay the groundwork for the rest of his or her life. Moreover, with around 115 different study programs in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, and engineering, graduates of the University of Southern Denmark are now members of virtually every profession in the international community.
Together departments and centers cover a wide range of research fields and educational opportunities. Every faculty consists of several departments, where the departments have a noticeable academic and economic independence and responsibility within the Dean's scope.
At each department, the Dean appoints the head of the department. The person in question must be an acknowledged researcher and have teaching experience within one of the department's subject areas.
To promote and make communication and knowledge exchange visible, the faculties cooperate with various external parties. These activities are organized in so-called centers.
The centers serve to promote particular purposes in research, education, or knowledge exchange.
A center is established through a contract or a project with one or more external parties. The center's purpose and function are determined in collaboration with the faculty and the external parties involved. The center's tasks are established through an action plan for a given operational period.
