The Institute of Hospitality Management currently offers four bachelor’s and three master’s programs accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education.

For those interested in careers in the service industry’s attractive fields, our goal is to offer highly professional preparation in order to facilitate:

  • Work in the middle to upper management in hotel chains and other establishments in the travel and tourism industry.
  • Doing business in the field of hotels, gastronomy, and travel and tourism.
  • Securing a management position in numerous other fields.

Achieving this goal requires steady attention to high-quality instruction, enriching it with the newest professional knowledge and trends, and combining theory with practice. More than 80 percent of instruction is carried out by full-time teachers who continuously improve the quality of instruction. Experts teach a select number of specialized subjects with experience in the field and from other universities.

The Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague provides its students with the complete groundwork for a successful degree. The Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague currently offers instruction in two modern and fully air-conditioned lecture halls, computer classrooms and several auditoriums fully equipped for multi-media presentations, including a space with state-of-the-art technology for practical and laboratory instruction – a gastronomical lecture hall, restaurant, and kitchen with training facilities, saloons, and two bars for training sommeliers and bartenders. Wi-fi access is available on the entire campus so that students can connect to the internet at any time.

In 2008 the study rooms were wholly modernized, and a large number of computer stations were installed with high-speed internet access. The rooms also provide space for studying - including a reading room, photocopy machines, and computer printers. There is also a library for use by students and staff, and a place to buy printed study materials. The best professional and specialized university materials are available from our faculty, and adjunct instructors for all subjects taught at the school.

IHM in Prague 8 offers curriculum for both Czech and international students with instruction in the Czech language. In order for students to successfully fulfill their responsibilities – lectures, seminars, exercises, written work, exams and tests, theses, etc., all students, including foreigners, must be able to write and communicate in Czech on at least a B1 level (by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages).

International applicants should familiarize themselves with the required knowledge of the Czech language for study at the Institute of Hospitality Management, including sample questions from the “Czech for Foreigners “placement test (level B1).

The decision for acceptance is based on the fulfillment of all requirements and verification of suitability by the Rector. Final decisions for acceptance are based on the order in which applications were submitted. All applicants will receive the decision for acceptance in written form on the day of enrollment.

The decision for acceptance is conditional upon closing a contract with IHM and paying the tuition within the term stated in the decision for acceptance – usually 14 days after acceptance. Otherwise, the applicant loses his place, and it will be offered to another.

Applicants may request an appeal to the acceptance decision. Requests must be made to the Rector within 30 days of receiving the decision. The Rector may grant the request or confirm the original decision – within 14 days of receiving the request. Decisions by the Rector are final.

The Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague (IHM) follows the successful programming period 2007-2013 in which we distributed nearly CZK 18 mil. From the European funds to its students and teachers. The new Erasmus University Charter (ECHE) is the necessary pre-condition for participation in the new Erasmus+ program.

The Institute of Hospitality Management was awarded the new Erasmus University Charter in December 2013 for 2014-2020. The Erasmus Policy Statement was a part of the ECHE application. The European Commission will monitor its implementation.

Since the academic year 2013/2014, all the data of the partner institutions, business partners, outgoing students, teachers, and staff have been inserted in the electronic database of the European Commission, which also known as Mobility Tool. All reports of outgoing mobility are included in the system.

The student mobility for study or placement belongs to Key Programme Activity KA1. The main difference from the present program is the possibility to repeat mobility in each study cycle up to twelve months. Theoretically, students will be able to study or train abroad for up to twelve months within each study cycle (bachelor, master or doctorate level), irrespective of the mobility type (studies or internships) and the number of mobility periods (e. g. two periods of six months or three periods of four months).

The opportunity to go for the internship is also opened for a fresh graduate within one year after graduation. The student has to sign the complete contractual documents with the IHM before the final graduation.

Due to the grants calculations, the European Commission divides countries taking part in Erasmus+ into three groups, based on their living costs. The Programme Guide gives the amount of the EU grant. Students can get EUR 500, 400, or 300/month. The EU grant also depends on the type of mobility - study or traineeship. The EU grant for students on a traineeship will increase by EUR 100/month for each group.

An increase of EUR 200/month also foresees special arrangements for students from low-income backgrounds. As in the previous period, the IHM will select students for transparent, equal, documented selection procedures. The selection criteria are public (IS, IHM website). Students also get the chance to online language training. The European Commission has opened its free online courses in five languages (EN, DE, FR, ES and IT) by 1st January 2015. Students verify their language knowledge ex-ante and ex-post in free online testing. The European Commission emphasizes the necessity of rigorous language training. The program does not include the Intensive Language Courses any more.
