The Czech Technical University in Prague is one of the biggest and oldest technical universities in Europe. For the 2017/18 academic year, CTU in Prague offers its students 128 study programs within the framework, of which there are 453 fields of study. CTU educates modern specialists, scientists, and managers with knowledge of foreign languages, who are dynamic and flexible and can adapt quickly to the market requirements.

In 2017, CTU occupied the following positions in the QS World University Rankings, which include more than 4400 world universities: Civil and Structural Engineering – 51st to 100th position Mechanical Engineering – 151st to 200th position Computer Science and Information Systems – 201st to 250th position Electrical Engineering – 151st to 200th position Mathematics – 251st to 300th position Physics and Astronomy – 151st to 200th position Natural Sciences – 220th position Architecture – 101st to 150th position, and Engineering & Technology – 201st position.

  • We are the oldest technical university in Central Europe. CTU was founded in 1707.
  • About 24 000 students study at our Faculties.
  • We offer 419 fields of study in the framework of 105 study programs.
  • In the worldwide ranking of technical universities, we occupy 156th place.
  • At CTU, you can study abroad for some semesters at a partner university as an exchange student.
  • Our graduates have no problem finding a job.

Our oldest faculties are the Faculties of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering. More recently established faculties are the Faculties of Architecture and Transportation Sciences. Our newest faculties are the Faculties of Biomedical Engineering and Information Technologies.

Each faculty of CTU, and some of the Institutes at the university, organize and teach their study programs, and each faculty and institution organizes its entrance procedures. In most cases, there is a written test based on the prerequisites for studying at the faculty. For bachelor study programs, the tests are mainly on mathematics and physics. The entrance tests for the Faculty of Architecture include a talent test (an aptitude test). Have a good look at the conditions in the entrance procedures if you have previous outstanding results, or if you competed in a secondary school Olympiad for maths and physics or have extraordinary achievements related to your proposed studies? You may fulfill the requirements for acceptance without an entrance examination.

For those interested in studying in a foreign language, we can study some programs in English. We offer all of our students the opportunity to study abroad as an integral part of their study program in Europe and elsewhere. It is possible to study abroad more than once. The ELSA Centre offers special services for students with disabilities and provides the specific types of help they need to succeed in their studies.

During your studies, you can participate in a range of student competitions and attend special lectures, seminars, and consultancies given by well-known personalities and guest speakers.

CTU holds the Diploma Supplement Label award, which means that each of our graduates automatically and without charge receives a Czech-English Diploma Supplement, which explains and supplements the information given on your degree certificate.

Research is carried out at all eight faculties and the university institutes: the Klockner Institute, the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies, and the Institute of Technical and Experimental Physics. In the future, too, we aim to be a prestigious university where the emphasis will be on high-quality scientific and research work, and on being a significant performer in the European research and education space.

In addition to the bachelor study programs offered in the Czech language, CTU in Prague offers the opportunity to take programs taught in the English language and Russian language.

The standard length of these study programs is 3 or 4 years, and students may study full-time or part-time. On completing their studies, graduates are awarded a bachelor's degree and receive a bachelor's title. At the Faculty of Architecture, graduates of the study program in Design are awarded a bachelor of arts degree and the title "bakalář umění".

Bachelor graduates have the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform technical functions in industry, institutions, schools, commerce, and services. They are also well prepared for further studies.

The composition of the courses meets the highest European education quality requirements for the qualifications of graduates. Every bachelor study program is accredited with the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, and is by the European education requirements based on the Bologna process.

The university's reputation is also enhanced by the internationally acclaimed science and research projects carried out at CTU, and by the university's active participation in international networks, organizations, and competitions.

The international dimension is rapidly becoming a standard aspect of the day-to-day work of faculties, departments, research teams, student dormitories, etc. The difference between national and international has become smaller and less significant. International activities are coordinated by the International Office, in close collaboration with the very active International Student Club (ISC) and support from the CTU community in general.

We are proud of:

    • The excellent reputation of our outgoing exchange students at our partner universities.
    • The rapid development of international awareness and knowhow and the international orientation of many activities throughout the university.
    • The achievements of the International Student Club at CTU.
    • The ever-growing popularity of CTU with incoming exchange students.
    • The support is given by the whole CTU community to international activities.

We are unique:

    • We offer students a broad range of opportunities to study at leading universities abroad - in the EU countries, north, central and south America, in Asia, Australia, and South Africa.
    • Students and the academic staff receive growing numbers of visitors from abroad, and travel abroad intensively, through centrally-organized activities and also through collaboration at the level of the faculty and the research team, and though personal initiatives.
    • International education, science, and research have become a regular aspect of academic life for many workplaces at the university.
