The UWL Select Mission, Vision guide UW-La Crosse's institutional priorities, and Values statements, adopted by the UWL Joint Planning & Budget Committee in March 2015. As part of the University of Wisconsin System, UWL is also guided by the UW System Mission Statement and the Core Mission of the University Cluster Institutions, which applies to all the UW System's comprehensive universities. At the core of all the mission statements is "The Wisconsin Idea," the principle that the university's knowledge should be extended to the entire state.
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse provides a challenging, dynamic, and diverse learning environment where the entire university community is fully engaged in supporting student success. Grounded in the liberal arts, UWL fosters curiosity and life-long learning through collaboration, innovation, and the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge. Acknowledging and respecting the contributions, UWL is a regional academic and cultural center that prepares students to take their place in a constantly changing world community. The university offers undergraduate programs and degrees in the arts and humanities, health and sciences, education, and business administration. The university offers graduate programs related to emphasis and strength within the institution, including business administration, education, health, the sciences, and the social sciences.
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse aims to foster within each student the curiosity, creativity, and tenacity necessary to solve the regional, national, and international challenges of the 21 st century. The university's official motto means corpuscle ("mind and body") will continue to guide our direction as a student-centered university committed to quality education for the whole person. As such, it will continue to provide opportunities both inside and outside the classroom for the development of sound mental, emotional, and ethical skills, as well as general well-being. Our students, faculty, and staff will experience the world through continually evolving technologies and cultures. The mission of the Student Life Office (SLO) is to enrich and support the UWL community through programmatic opportunities, as well as individual interventions.
We challenge and support individual growth through educational outreach, including wellness, alcohol education, campus safety, violence prevention, and programming for students in transition.
We strive to meet individuals where they are along their journey by providing the assistance and guidance they need and deserve. SLO is a campus resource and an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs.
International Education & Engagement (IEE) is a campus, and community resource focused on supporting student success by facilitating global experiences for students, faculty, staff, and the community. We strive to support and engage cross-cultural understanding through programming, teaching, learning, research, partnerships, and service opportunities. Every semester International Education & Engagement allocates money to students who are extensively involved in educating others about their home country/culture or who wish to study abroad while maintaining a high GPA. The money for these scholarships comes from the Student Association and the UW System Fund. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who pay out-of-state tuition (for international students) or to encourage international awareness (for domestic students).
The Department of Art at UWL provides the traditional and non-traditional art studio and theory art history courses.
