A period of study at Charles University can be a fulfilling and memorable experience. If you would like to enrich your life with a Central European experience, Charles University is the place to go. Charles University attracts students not only because of its long and eventful history but also because of the enormous variety of programs taught here, covering all major fields of human knowledge. Besides courses delivered in Czech, Charles University also provides entire degree programs taught in English, as well as several individual course units taught in English, German and French. On these pages, you will find everything you need to know about studying at Charles University for a semester or two under a variety of mobility programs. Besides the familiar Erasmus exchange program, Charles University has signed many inter-university agreements and faculty agreements with partners from all over the world. If Charles University does not have a direct cooperation agreement with your home university, you may still be able to come here under an exclusive bilateral international agreement or as a free mover. Furthermore, Charles University invites students to attend several summer schools and preparatory courses. Besides student exchanges, Charles University also promotes international links by participating in joint Master's and Ph.D. programs, joint supervision of dissertations (the cotutelle system), and Erasmus Mundus II international programs. Study programs realized at our University have accreditation of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Education (before August 31, 2016), or from the National Accreditation Bureau for Higher Education (from 2018), or acquired a license within the institutional accreditation of the Charles University (from now on "accreditation"). The offer of study programs is extraordinarily rich in international comparison and long term stable encompassing the majority of fields of study in the following areas: biology, ecology, economics, pharmacy, philology, and works of literature, philosophy, theology and religions, physics, earth sciences, history, chemistry, medicine, health care specialties, mathematics and theoretical informatics, pedagogy, psychology, sports and anthropology, law, social sciences, and art history, as well as teachers' training in most of the mentioned areas. In the graduate study, there are currently accredited 164 study programs with 583 branches. Sorted according to cycles, there are 64 bachelor's, 66 master's, and 34 long-cycle master's study programs with 215 bachelor's, 274 master's, and 94 long-cycle master's study branches at the Charles University. From the aggregate number of 34 long-cycle master's programs– i.e., self-contained programs that do not follow on from a three-year Bachelor's program – with 94 branches, the University decided to continue to run just: General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law and Legal Science, Primary Education and Catholic Theology in future. In a postgraduate doctoral study, Charles University has been implementing a total of 222 study programs with 195 study branches (many doctoral study programs, particularly in the area of medicine and science, do not split into branches). For more than ten years, the instruction proceeds under the University's credit system for bachelor and master studies, which is compatible with the rules of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), facilitating student mobility and recognition of study within the European Union and offshore. The Charles University Research Department nominates the University's researchers e.g., for the Scopus Awards, the L'Oréal – Unesco Awards, or the European Latsis Prize. The faculties can also nominate their staff for other awards. Past honors won by researchers include the Gold Medal of the Slovak Medical Society, the ISCA Medal, IFIP Silver Core Award, and the European Award in Combinatorics. Modern university life began to thrive, drawing actively on international cooperation. Aware of its mission, Charles University continues to nurture academic cooperation and plays an active role in a broad spectrum of European and global programs. He Long-term Plan of a Czech public higher education institution sets out plans for its activities in education, research, development, innovation, artistic and other creative activities. A Long-term Plan is the institution's primary development policy document and serves as a guide when making funding decisions. The Rector presents the draft Plan to the Academic Senate of the University for approval. The Plan covers four years.
