More than 150 years ago, German immigrants cut trees, cleared the land, and built the first buildings on Lakeland's campus. There was no electricity, running water, and no football team - just total dedication to higher-level education. These persistent people's commitment and spirit live on at Lakeland in a vital and growing campus of academic excellence and in an electric spirit that drives programs to higher and higher levels.
Today, Lakeland University is a bachelor's and master's degree-granting liberal arts institution related to the United Church of Christ with nearly 3,500 students from 24 countries, ten on-campus residence halls, and more than 30 majors, including our newest academic programs, such as communication, graphic design, and management information systems. Also, we have evening, weekend, and online centers in Milwaukee, Madison, Wisconsin Rapids, Chippewa Valley, Fox Cities, Green Bay, Sheboygan, and a two-year international campus in Tokyo, Japan.
Our commitment to education goes far beyond the classroom, as we offer our students the opportunity to make a difference and help others. Lakeland students lead the call for a cleaner environment, smarter recycling, providing shelter and food for the poor, and the fight against cancer and other diseases. Our student-athletes are a force to be reckoned with, as our men's and women's teams and individuals compete in NCAA Division III baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling. Each student comes to Lakeland with a different set of financial circumstances. We consider every possible funding source to fill in any gaps with a range of grants, loans, scholarships, and other financial aid solutions. We make the cost of a private-school education comparable to that of the state's public schools. And that makes for a lot of relieved students.
Students get involved in many different reasons based on their individual needs and desires. What you get out of it varies with your contribution, but most students say they receive great personal success and have the most fun of their life being involved in college. The Health Center is an on-campus health resource located on the ground floor of Brotz Hall. We are here to help with your primary health needs and referral service to outside providers as needed.
Lakeland University's Counseling Center is dedicated to providing support and assistance to students as they develop academically, personally, socially, and spiritually. The John H. Esch Library is dedicated to supporting student learning and the professional development and research needs of faculty and staff. The library is located in the heart of the campus, behind Old Main.
Whether you're trying to pass a course or maintain a 4.0, working with a tutor can be extremely helpful. Tutors provide FREE one-on-one assistance that may not be available in the classroom. Lakeland University is committed to providing resources and services for students with disabilities.
