Hope’s campus is nestled in the heart of downtown Holland, just miles from Lake Michigan. We have been part of this community for more than 150 years, growing from the ten students who enrolled in 1862 to more than 3,300 students on campus today.

Here, historic architecture fits comfortably with world-class facilities: Van Vleck Hall, built-in 1857, is just a block from our Pelletron particle accelerator. Here, inquisitive students work alongside faculty and staff mentors to pursue original research that adds new knowledge and understanding to all academic fields. Through these hands-on projects, students learn more about the world — and about themselves.
Offering 91 majors, minors, and pre-professional programs, Hope provides students the flexibility to pursue their academic interests. Our student: faculty ratio of 11:1 ensures that our small class sizes encourage support and mentoring.
Hope is committed to educating students with respect for and awareness of the historic Christian faith. Historically affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, we are ecumenically diverse. Students of all faiths — and no faith — are welcome here. Hope enrolls 3,150 students from 36 states and territories and 29 countries. With the great opportunities and programs Hope provides, each of them can look forward to attending their first choice of graduate and professional schools. Hope is consistently awarded more National Science Foundation grants for undergraduate research than any other liberal arts college and was ranked fourth for undergraduate research and creative activity by U.S. News & World Report.
A member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, Hope sponsors 22 varsity sports for men and women. The college is home to the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship women’s volleyball team.

Living on campus is an integral part of your time at Hope. Each first- and second-year student calls one of 11 residential halls “home,” while upperclassmen have the opportunity to live in one of more than 90 apartments and cottages close to campus. Many of these are houses in residential neighborhoods and are fully integrated into the Holland community. Plus, dining at Hope is an easy way to interact with your friends, faculty, and staff. Enjoy the variety at one of two residence dining halls, and purchase concessions at any of our sports venues or four on-campus retail outlets.
