Founded in 1899, The John Marshall Law School is proud to be recognized as a dynamic independent law school, promoting excellence in all aspects of legal education.

Due to their belief that the study of law is critical to the health of our democratic society, our founders made it their guiding principle to offer working professionals from all walks of life the opportunity and access to study law. Today, the law school remains true to those principles, and those of our namesake, in our efforts to continue redefining the opportunities of today's candidates and tomorrow's practitioners.

We are proud to be recognized as a diverse, innovative institution, promoting excellence in all aspects of legal education. We provide one of the most comprehensive and aggressive JD skills-training curricula in the country, including trial and appellate advocacy, alternative dispute resolution, client counseling, negotiations, and legal writing. In addition, our Centers for Excellence provide graduate law programs in employee benefits, information technology and privacy law, intellectual property law, international business and trade law, real estate law, and tax law. JD students have the opportunity to earn a JD certificate, a joint JD/LLM from one of our Centers, or a joint JD/graduate degree through partner programs with area institutions.

John Marshall degree candidates benefit from a combination of academic and practical instruction by full-time and practicing adjunct faculty. Students are also encouraged to gain legal experience by taking advantage of legal clinic opportunities, externships, practicum, and professional education events, and by participating in more than 20 specific programs designed to prepare students for the bar examination. Students should also utilize the resources and expertise of the Career Service Office.

The John Marshall Law School is committed to helping all students find the financial resources necessary to succeed in law school. A variety of loans and scholarships are available to work toward that goal. Merit scholarships are awarded to entering students on the basis of academic achievement, undergraduate course work, and Law School Admission Test scores.

When you apply to John Marshall, you are automatically considered for a full range of incoming student merit scholarships. Current students can apply for all John Marshall and donor-funded student scholarships and financial awards by completing the The John Marshall Law School Common Scholarship Application, which is available through eCommons, the John Marshall student web portal.

The John Marshall Law School is a law school in Chicago, Illinois, that was founded in 1899 and accredited by the American Bar Association in 1951. The school was named for the influential nineteenth-century U.S. Supreme CourtChief Justice John Marshall. The John Marshall Law School offers programs for both part-time and full-time students, with both day and night classes available, and offers January enrollment—choices most law schools no longer offer.
