Our talented and dedicated staff work hard to ensure all children reach their unique potential and leave Ysgol Y Foel as rounded individuals. Parents and Governors work in partnership with us to provide a lively, stimulating, caring environment. Together we teach children new skills and develop their knowledge using the latest technology and providing enjoyable and stimulating learning experiences. We have high expectations of all our pupils, both in their work attitude and behavior. Ysgol Y Foel is at the center of Cilcain village set in its beautiful grounds.
These include a Forest School site, amphitheater, and generous playground space. Our purpose-built Foundation Phase has its outdoor area. We encourage our children to apply their skills through problem-solving activities at every opportunity. We are active members of the Mold Consortium and enjoy links with other small schools. These provide our pupils with opportunities to meet and work with others. Wherever we can we seek to enrich our pupil's experience through participation in a variety of sporting and creative events. Our school is at the heart of the community, working and using the expertise of residents to enhance the learning experiences of our children. This year we won The Daily Posts Active Community Award.
Ysgol y Foel is a local authority community primary school, providing full-time education for both boys and girls, between 4 years (Reception) and 11 years (Year 6). We provide a part-time Nursery for children starting the term following their 3rd birthday. Pupils are taught through the medium of English, with Welsh being taught as a second language. The school was built in 1963 and is positioned within the rural village of Cilcain.
The school has a new Foundation Phase Unit and two classrooms for Key Stage Two children, a library, a secretary and headteacher’s offices, staff room, and hall. There also toilets for the pupils and staff. Outside there is ample playing area for all the pupils: the Foundation Phase has its fenced-off area (including covered area). There is also a large hard surface playground at the rear of the school. During the fine weather, pupils are allowed on the large playing fields which provide plenty of opportunity for games and recreational activities. There is a wildlife pond and a wooded area at the side of the school.
