The original Victorian school, situated on the main Swansea road was built in 1897 and has recently been converted into housing for the elderly. The school celebrated its centenary in 1997. Ysgol y Bynea provides mainstream education for pupils aged between 3—11 years. The school is a County Primary Co-Educational Day school that adopts the L.E.A.’s Welsh Language Policy for Primary schools. The school falls into Category B/ Category 5 with education being through the medium of English, with Welsh being taught as a second language. The predominant language spoken at home is English.
