Our vision at Ysgol y Bedol is to provide a school where all pupils, staff, parents, governors, and community work together to offer a welcoming, caring, stimulating, and safe environment to encourage effective learning and instill a sense of pride in oneself, the school and the community.
Entering school for the first time is a very big step in your child’s life as well as your own. We want this transition from home to school or from school to school to be as smooth as possible. Hopefully, this prospectus will help, however, no prospectus will answer all your questions, so please visit the school with your child and see for yourself how happy the children are and how well they work with their teachers.
We are very proud of the pupils at Ysgol y Bedol. Every year we have many visitors to the school and frequently they make comments about how well our pupils behave and how courteous they are. The school is proud of its reputation for its consistent care for the well-being of every individual child, both in terms of welfare and educational provision. The facilities and extended learning opportunities offered at Ysgol y Bedol are excellent and the many activities offered to the pupils ensure that they become effective lifelong learners.
Prepare your child for school. Encourage your child in all he/she set out to do. All research has proved beyond a doubt that home, where there is love, interest, stability, and continuing encouragement, does more for a child’s educational progress than any other factor. Make sure he/she can dress him/herself and make his/her needs known. Make sure that your child comes to school with a good command of language. Talk to your child constantly, read to him/her daily and teach him/her nursery rhymes and songs. Make an effort to attend school meetings arranged for parents. Teachers can become frustrated if parents fail to do their duty to their children. Make sure your child comes to school clean and suitably dressed. Please ensure that your child is ‘potty/toilet trained’ – a “big accident” will be followed by a phone call home.
Ensure that your child has faith and trust in his/her teacher. Get up early enough to give your child a calm and ordered start to the day. Remember that a good breakfast is essential to his/her staying power and concentration throughout the morning. (There is a very good Breakfast Club at the school each morning from 8 o’clock.) You know your child, so don’t expect the school to suddenly make him/her well behaved if you haven’t succeeded in doing so at home.
A school has to be fair to all its pupils, therefore, please don’t ask for special treatment such as ‘Let him stay in at playtime’ or ‘She doesn’t want to go swimming. Remember, that some conformity is reasonable in society. Always discuss any concerns with the class teachers – even if you think they are small. It’s a good idea to mark your child’s school uniform. It’s difficult to find a sweatshirt without a name – it may be one of the hundreds! Finally, do not join the ‘school rails parliament’! If you are unhappy about any aspect of the school I would be more than happy to discuss the matter with you.
