Rhos Helyg is an English Medium County maintained co-educational nursery, infant and junior school, of about one hundred and fifty pupils. Opened in 1953, it draws its children mainly from the villages of Rhosesmor, Halkyn, Pentre Halkyn, Rhes Y Cae, and the surrounding countryside. We endeavor to provide a secure, caring, and happy atmosphere where learning takes place. Children have access to a broad, balanced curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of the basic skills of literacy and numeracy and their application in other fields of study within the National Curriculum.

We believe that all children are of equal value, both as learners and as members of the school community. A balance is kept between academic achievement and the development of personal attributes such as self-discipline, loyalty, involvement as a member of a team, and respect for other people and property. Our aim is that every child should find the years of primary education enjoyable and profitable, and we hope that parents will share their children's enthusiasm and pleasure in achievements great and small. These goals can best be achieved when teachers and parents work together for the good of their children.

We aim to ensure the best possible standard of education for all pupils regardless of their age or ability and to fully develop their personalities and interests. Our aim is that all pupils develop to be confident and responsible members of society. We aim to achieve this by:

  • Providing a broad, balanced, and creative curriculum enabling all pupils to achieve and enjoy.
  • Setting high expectations and giving every learner confidence that they can succeed.
  • Developing an ethos of mutual respect and co-operation.
  • Creating a trusting environment in which children feel happy, included, secure, and valued.
  • Promoting links with our wider community and encouraging respect and understanding for our diverse society.
  • Celebrating the achievements of all children
