The purpose of this handbook is to provide an insight into the philosophy, ethos, and work of this school. It was designed primarily for parents, but can be helpful to others who are interested and need information. If you would like more information you can contact the Headteacher. A good relationship between parents and school is essential for the success of the work and interests of the children.
You will be formally invited to come to the school to look at your child's work once a term to discuss their work programs and targets with your child’s teacher for the year. You are also welcome to come to school at any other time to discuss anything relating to the children, but you are asked to arrange the time beforehand. This is a daily special school for children with special educational needs, some with severe and multi-impaired. The age range of children is from 3-19 years old. It is a Welsh school and one which concentrates upon developing the ‘communication’ skills of its pupils. It is a bilingual school naturally.
The aim is to create an environment that reflects the attempt to reach high standards in terms of values, attitudes, and educational experiences. The aim is to offer a broad and balanced education which is also challenging in its nature. The ambition is to create the best situation where the individual can develop their potential in all aspects so they can feel that they have just as much to contribute to their society as others do.
To achieve the above, the aim is to create an intimate atmosphere where the individual can feel safe and positive within the school’s social and know the boundaries in which they can work. When receiving praise for succeeding at something, the pupils learned how to show respect and self-confidence towards others as well as for themselves.
Every success, however small, receives praise and is given recognition, which through the imagination and curiosity of the individual, in turn, leads to more success. The school aims to offer educational experiences that are relevant to the needs and maturity of the individual. The experiences and interests of staff are utilized as well as outside experiences to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum, which also creates appropriate challenges to the pupil.
