In September 2002 the new school building was opened. The school can cater to 1,500 pupils including a maximum of over 200 sixth form students. Much effort has been spent to ensure the new school environment can enhance the academic and social development of the pupils in their respective year groups.

The school has been built to the highest specifications and is well set to provide an exceptional atmosphere enabling us to maximize each pupil’s potential in achieving his/her personal goals. Our planning for the new school has involved the staff, the governors, and the pupils, and we are collaborating closely with Wiltshire FM, the company that is responsible for its day-to-day maintenance. We can now look forward to providing Welsh-medium education in a school whose physical environment will, for the first time, match the success of the teaching and learning for which Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni can be rightly proud. Our aim, therefore, is clear: it is to build on the proven achievements of the school.

We are a unique school, as we are the only Welsh-medium secondary school in Caerphilly County Borough. All pupils will be encouraged strongly to communicate with each other in Welsh and to enjoy extracurricular events that celebrate the use of the language. Parental involvement and encouragement for their children to speak Welsh as often as possible are essential.

• To enable pupils to develop worthwhile relationships with their Form Teacher and tutor group, so that they feel valued and secure.
• To create a climate in which pupils reflect on their academic progress and discuss personal issues that impose on their progress.
• To help pupils to attain higher academic goals, these are expressed in terms of targets
• To develop as responsible, trustworthy, and courteous members of the community.
• To encourage pupils to develop positive, tolerant, and caring relationships with each other and with adults. This will help them to understand and cope with any problems within these relationships.
• To provide advice and information on key issues such as health, careers, guidance, transition, equal opportunities, etc.
• To make pupils aware of and understand the reasons for school policies on bullying, conduct, and any other socially unacceptable behavior.
