Ysgol Glanwydden serves the catchment area of Penrhyn Bay, Penrhynside, Bryn Pydew, and Glanwydden. In September 2016 we have 310 pupils including part-time (nursery) pupils. We currently employ 14 teachers (13 class teachers and the headteacher), 16 classroom assistants, 2 lunchtime supervisors, 2 secretaries, dinner clerk, caretaker, 3 cleaners, cook, and 3 kitchen assistants.

We believe that building a good relationship between home and school is important to a child's learning, and we encourage parents to become involved with our school. Volunteer parents are welcomed to assist with reading, sports, and other activities.

Confidence is gained in a school by being aware of, and understanding what is happening within it. Parents gain greater understanding through contacts and discussion with members of staff. Our joint responsibility for a child's education must be based on mutual understanding and trust, and we encourage parents to take advantage of every invitation to meet with their child's teachers.

Aims and objectives:

• To create an environment and atmosphere which will help each child to develop into a balanced and confident individual, by providing opportunities to develop and practice skills and aptitudes to the full extent of his/her potential.
• To make the child aware of the well-being of others and to help him/her to grow into a responsible member of the local community and broader society.
• To offer education of the highest possible standard reflecting the policies of the L.E.A and central government.
• To allow each pupil to develop linguistically in both Welsh and English and encourage the development of their understanding of their Welsh heritage.

The National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) has been developed to help achieve our aim that the children of Wales can develop excellent literacy and numeracy skills during their time at school. In this section, you can find all the latest information on the LNF.

You can explore the expectation statements, which set out the skills we expect learners to develop in school from ages 5 to 14. You can also view the guidance and training materials that are available to support the introduction of the LNF.

Learners and parents/carers will benefit from a clearer understanding of the literacy and numeracy skills, learning needs, and progression that the LNF will provide. Schools will be assisted in implementing the LNF by a comprehensive national support program that is tailored to address the needs of individual schools, learners, and teachers.
