Ysgol Dolbadarn. We would like to emphasize from the outset that education is a partnership between ourselves and the home. With your co-operation, we hope your child’s time here will be a happy one and that we will see continuous educational and social development. We hope this Handbook will assist you in getting to know the school and how you can support your child’s work.
It contains information important to the day-to-day management of the school and to assist your child in settling down quickly. The Handbook, however, does not pretend to be exhaustive, and whilst the information was correct at the time of publication some changes might occur before the beginning of the school year. You are welcome to make arrangements to visit the school to discuss the contents or matters not dealt with in this Handbook.
Ysgol Dolbadarn is a primary school that caters to pupils from 3-11 years of age. Pupils are admitted part-time in the September following their third birthday and full-time in the September following their fourth birthday. The building dates back to 1938, but at that time older pupils also attended the school. Over the years the two-floor building has been adapted for its present use and it is a large building with sizeable classrooms. In October 2006 a new Computer Suite was opened and this was made possible with the generous support of the local community and the Parents & Friends Association.
At eleven years of age pupils usually transfer to Ysgol Brynrefail which is in Llanrug. A special center for children with speech and language difficulties is housed in the school and open each morning. The center is run directly by the Education Authority, but pupils and staff integrate socially. The school was inspected by Estyn in November 2006. The school received a most complimentary Report and a copy of the Summary For Parents and/or the full Report can be obtained from the school.
Ysgol Dolbadarn is a natural Welsh school and both staff and pupils work hard to maintain the school’s Welsh ethos and environment. Those of you whose children encounter a bilingual situation for the first time should not feel threatened nor feel that you do not belong. Perhaps you are not a Welsh speaker (although many parents decide to learn the language), but we hope that you will respect the linguistic environment that exists here an environment that enriches the children’s learning experiences so much in all respects. We respect your right to use the language of your choice, and to that end, all general correspondence sent from the school will be bilingual.
