Wilbury Primary School is a friendly, vibrant four-form entry primary school in Edmonton, North London with over 950 children aged 3 to 11. We have a strong ethos of inclusion, encouraging all our children to be confident and caring of themselves and those around them. We set high standards of respect, hard work, and achievement for all adults and children and we provide a very wide variety of opportunities for the children within and beyond the curriculum.
We have three main values that are shared across the school: Respect, Determination, and Responsibility. These are embedded in all that we do, they are shared in assemblies and every week a child from each department who has demonstrated the values in some way during the week is chosen to receive the Values Medal. Their photo is then displayed on the ‘Values Wall’.
Our School has children from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and religions. Inclusion is key to the ethos of the school where everyone is valued, whatever our difference. The school attained the Inclusion Quality Mark again recently and we work hard to involve everyone in school life. Parents are invited to assemblies throughout the year to celebrate Eid, Christmas, Harvest, and Passover as well as other events such as Black History Month which we celebrate each year. In addition to this, we hold a special Eid celebration and various Christmas celebrations with the whole school joining together to celebrate each other’s festivals.
Our children will learn to recognize the difference between right and wrong and apply this understanding in their own lives. They will be able to recognize boundaries and, in so doing, respect rules within the school and beyond. The children are consistently helped in school to understand the consequences of their behavior and actions through the behavior system which they clearly understand. We encourage the children to be interested in investigating and offering reasoned views about moral and ethical issues so that they can understand and appreciate the viewpoints of others on these issues.
The ethos of the school supports the children to understand and accept the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Our focus on our vision and values ensures that the children develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.
