Our school motto, Learning and Growing Together is as relevant today, as it was when it was chosen in 2001 by the newly formed school council of the newly amalgamated Wattville Primary School. We aim to foster attributes of curiosity and perseverance in our pupils and help them to see that each one of us has skills, knowledge, and abilities to offer. We are blessed by the rich diversity of our pupils’ cultural and social heritage and see this as a real strength for the school. We strive to provide our pupils with a curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that will equip them for the future. We pride ourselves on engaging with our school community and sharing their life-long journey of learning, preparing our pupils for the next stage of their education and beyond.
With the new National Curriculum being introduced by the Government this year (2014-15) we have been working hard to refresh our school approach and provision for pupils. As part of this work, we have decided to implement the new Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally-recognized approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.
Cornerstones also provide a rigorous essential skills framework that outlines the end-of-year expectations in all subjects. These essential skills are tied to activities and are age-related so that staff can track children’s progress and identify their individual learning needs. At Wattville Primary School we work hard to help remove barriers to learning. Wattville Primary School aims to enable all children the opportunity to achieve their best academically, emotionally, and socially.
