The education of your child is close to our hearts therefore we must work together to provide a successful primary education. We hope that we can do this through a happy and safe environment that encourages development and achievement in the different stages of childhood. Our school is an important part of the community therefore you and your child will be an important part of that community. Essential to this is that the children, staff, parents, governors, and the community work together, as members of a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More).

Your interest and involvement allow the children to develop and grow in confidence, knowing that the people who care about them are working for their benefit. Our school is a predominantly English medium primary school (EM). This means that all pupils in the Foundation Phase experience the areas of learning mainly through the medium of English, and English is the main teaching medium at KS2. Welsh is taught as a second language in KS2, and some aspects of some subjects may be taught in Welsh. Less than 20% of the teaching is through the medium of Welsh. The normal expectation is that pupils will transfer to English medium secondary provision and continue to learn predominantly through the medium of English, learning Welsh as a second language.

Aims of the School The overall aims of Tycroes School are:

• To ensure that each pupil is received into a welcoming and secure atmosphere where he or she will be allowed to develop intellectually, culturally, emotionally, socially, morally, spiritually, and physically.
• To create high standards of learning experiences for all children, and to provide them with access to all areas of a broad and balanced curriculum.
• To create a lively and stimulating environment within the school.
• To create a positive partnership with parents and carers, so that both parties can work together in the interest of the pupils
• To create a caring environment so that everybody in the school feels a sense of worth personally, and that they have a role to play in the development of the school.
• To work closely with friends of our school in the local community, and ensure that Ysgol Tycroes plays a positive role in the community
• To develop the self-esteem of everyone involved with the school, so that they can feel positive about themselves, about what they do, and about the school.
