The Queen's School, Kew, is a Church of England primary school in the London Borough of Richmond, England. We are a Voluntary Aided two-form school in the parish of St Anne's. Queen's encourages every child to reach their full potential, nurtured and supported in a Christian community, which lives by the values of love, compassion, and respect. The Queen's School has proudly served our children for more than 200 years. Now we look to future generations and the learning journey they need to equip them for the 21st century.
We welcome applications from all members of the community and we ask all to respect the Christian Ethos of our school and its importance within our community. If you are considering The Queen’s Church of England School for your child, you are warmly invited to make an appointment to visit once your child has reached three years of age.
Every year we admit thirty children to each of our two reception classes, sixty in total. If we are oversubscribed we will allocate places using our admissions criteria which are available to view in our Admissions Policy. We encourage you to read both our Admissions Policy and Richmond’s Guide, “Admission to Richmond’s Primary Schools”, which is updated and published each August, the year before your child enters reception. Please note that children applying who have older siblings at Queen’s still need to apply for a reception place in the usual way. Following an application, if we are unable to offer a place for your child, their name will be placed on a waiting list operated by the school by the oversubscription criteria. The waiting list remains open until the end of the summer term. Parents who wish their child to remain on the waiting list beyond the end of the summer term must notify the Local Authority in writing.
You have the legal right to appeal against a decision not to offer your child a place at Queen’s. You are entitled to appeal for a place even though your child may have received an offer of a place at another school. Parents wishing to appeal should obtain an appeal form from the school. The form should be sent to the Clerk to the Appeal panel, c/o The Queen’s Church of England Primary School. Appeal Applications must be received by the school within 20 school days, starting from the National Offer Day. Governors provide a strategic view that sets out the broad framework within which the Headteacher and her staff run the school. We focus on the school’s Vision Priorities and statutory responsibilities. The Headteacher and staff report to the governors who offer support and challenge to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children. We conduct ourselves in line with our Standing Orders. The bulk of Governing Board work takes place through Governor Committees that focus on specific areas of our work. The Full Governing Board meets six times a year and delegates work to the committees through the Committee Terms of Reference.
Supporting our classroom learning is an endless list of inspirational activities. Read all about them in our newsletters, find out about our most exciting events and learn more about our fabulous music, sport, and clubs. Queen's School lies at the heart of Kew, and we reach out to many local organizations. From our beautiful churches to the community's after-school, music and sporting groups, we aim to build our children's connections with their neighbors. We maintain links with former pupils, often through music, as they go on to secondary school and out into the wider world. Our annual concerts at the Barn Church bring all ages together to celebrate our community. Enjoy these pages as we go beyond the school gates.
The National Association of Head Teachers has partnered with Family Action to be the president’s charity and throughout the year they will be supporting parents, pupils, and teachers to work together to ensure young people get the very best from their time at school. The theme of the partnership is "school readiness" and preparing your child for the school day has a big impact on educational attainment - so if a child comes to school without having had a good night’s sleep, or if they start the day on an empty stomach, this will hurt their ability to learn. Over the next few months, a series of leaflets aimed at supporting parents, pupils, and teachers will be published.
The Queen’s School has Vision Priorities that provide a clear focus for actions and decision-making in the school. This is our School Development Plan. We're now coming to the end of our most recent two-year cycle, and thinking about our priorities for the next two years. The process began in 2011 when the Governing Body asked children, parents, staff, governors, and other stakeholders for their views. At our first Vision Day that was attended by all staff, governors, and parent representatives, ten long-term Vision Priorities for the school were agreed upon.
