The Belvedere Academy is a non-denominational, non-fee-paying, independent girls’ secondary school. Over the past few years, it has expanded to accommodate around 850 students, 600 11 to 16-year-olds, and up to 250 in the Sixth Form.
The Belvedere School has had an outstanding reputation for excellence in girls’ education in Liverpool and beyond for over 130 years. The Academy has built on both this heritage and the rich traditions of the school.
We offer a broad, distinctive, and predominantly academic education for girls from 11 to 19 years of age and the Academy has successfully built on its long-standing reputation for excellent results and high-quality pastoral care for all students. The innovative and enriched curriculum reflects our vision and ethos and meets the needs and aspirations of our students. We offer a unique educational experience at Belvedere for young people from Liverpool and beyond.
We admit an all-ability intake in Year 7 from across Liverpool and its surrounding areas and are hugely oversubscribed each year. Despite this increased range of abilities we have retained our outstanding examination results, ethos, and high expectations, with each girl expected to have "personal best" as a consistent goal.
The five outcomes for all young people set out in Every Child Matters will inform decision-making, academy organization, and the educational offer at the academy.
We will work with others to create a healthy, safe environment within which students can enjoy learning, make progress achieve high standards participate fully and make a positive contribution to the academy and wider community and, ultimately become successful, motivated, well-adjusted adults who achieve economic well-being. We will measure our success against these outcomes.
Our Awards are Investor in People, Liverpool Inclusion Charter Mark, Artsmark Gold, International School Award, Eco-Schools.
We aim to prepare our students for adult life by helping them to fulfill their potential in all areas. We encourage each student to achieve her personal best.
We recognize the need for a broad and balanced curriculum and are aware of the vital contribution made by pastoral and extracurricular activities to the development of the whole person. Students must be given every opportunity to be part of a team, to take responsibility, to develop a wide range of interests, and to be of service to others.
The curriculum is delivered through teaching and learning across all subject areas. All departments are required to have schemes of work within their departmental handbooks. These are updated annually. Every subject makes a contribution to the learning experience however the aim is to present a coherent curriculum rather than a series of unconnected learning experiences. To this end, cross-curricular themes are encouraged and particularly those related to the international dimension.
The provision of high-quality, impartial, and relevant career information, advice, and guidance has never been more important than it is today. Good career guidance is critical if young people are to raise their aspirations and capitalize on the opportunities available to them.
Life in The Belvedere Academy Sixth Form is fast-paced, hard work yet immensely rewarding. You will find that you are given a new level of responsibility, which starts as soon as you apply for the sixth form and grows once you enter it.
We like to offer our sixth formers more independence and encourage our students to be independent learners and make sure that they, along with guidance take responsibility for their learning. We provide a personalized curriculum for our students and different paths can be taken through the sixth form. Whichever path a student takes whether it be the traditional four A-Levels or another route, we have the same high expectations of each student and work hard to support her in achieving her potential.
Moreover, it is not only Belvedere’s academic results that make the sixth form the highest achieving all girls’ sixth form in Liverpool but the vast array of Enrichment activities that are on offer. Our Enrichment program is second to none and we run clubs such as Duke of Edinburgh to learning Chinese or Arabic or perhaps having a go trying to knit a scarf at knitting club. As expected, there are also academic Enrichments that will support you in your A-Level studies and which run both at lunchtime and after school. Some of our sixth-formers even run their Enrichments for the younger girls.
