Welcome to ST.NICHOLAS. We are looking forward to working with all of our students, staff, parents, and the wider community. We are committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes for all of our students.

Your child needs to be challenged and supported to achieve their ‘Personal Best’, every day. We can do this by ensuring we provide quality first teaching and communicate with you to provide the best outcomes for every child.

St Nicholas Academy is a welcoming, calm, and purposeful Academy where everyone feels valued, supported, and challenged. Our Academy is a place where students desire for learning and achievement.

Our students grow in self-esteem and learn to become articulate, mature, and independent learners who appreciate the needs of others and understand the value of teamwork and partnership. They develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

The Academy of St. Nicholas will provide opportunities, encouragement, and guidance to enable every pupil to develop their abilities and achieve their potential within a safe and secure learning environment. Provision will meet statutory obligations, facilitate progression and be responsive to local and national agendas.

The Curriculum should give access for all pupils to:

• Personalized support and guidance
• Outstanding learning and teaching opportunities

We are committed to working with all our young people to develop their pathways to success. This will be delivered through a strong focus on innovation and excellence via the provision of the right curriculum and the best learning support for every student.

Students may opt to study both traditional and vocational courses. The curriculum on offer encompasses a wide range of traditional and vocational A Level courses including:

• AS levels
• A2 Levels
• BTEC Level 3 Certificate (AS Level)
• BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (A2 Level)
• NVQs at Level 3 and 2

The Academy of St. Nicholas is committed to raising the standards of numeracy of all of its students so that they develop the ability to use numeracy skills effectively in all areas of the curriculum and the skills necessary to cope confidently with the demands of further education, employment, and adult life.

All students must develop the ability to apply numerical understanding and skills confidently to solve problems in a variety of curriculum contexts and to cope with the practical mathematical demands of everyday life.

Through interventions, form-time activities, competitions, and a strong focus on using numeracy in all subjects, numeracy are embedded across the curriculum.

At The Academy of St. Nicholas literacy is at the heart of everything we do. The development of literacy skills across all curriculum areas is vital. Effective literacy across the curriculum will develop students’ ability.

In November 2015, students and staff were proud to achieve a Bronze Reading Quality Mark. This award celebrates the commitment and enjoyment of reading around the academy. Over the next academic year, we hope to apply for a Silver RQM Award as we develop the use of our new academy library.
