Stirchley Primary School is a happy and caring place where we have high expectations of all our children and staff. We provide a secure and stimulating environment in which children can develop to their full potential. We believe that every child has a right to quality education and that this is more easily achieved when parents and schools work together in partnership.
A values-based school seeks to promote an educational philosophy based on valuing self, others, and the environment through the consideration of an ethical values vocabulary (principles that guide behavior), as the basis of good educational practice. It encourages adults to model values and to give time for reflective practices that empower individuals to be effective learners and good citizens.
Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms safely, for example through our E-Safety and PHSE lessons, friendship decisions, and extra-curricular preferences.
Part of our ethos and behavior policy has revolved around Core Values such as ‘Respect’, and pupils take part in discussions in assemblies related to what this means and how it is shown. All members of the school community are encouraged to show each other respect. Posters around the school promote respect for others and this is reiterated through our classroom and learning rules, as well as our behavior policy.
At Stirchley, we place great emphasis on preparing children for life in the modern world. We aim to equip them with both the personal, social and academic skills to enable them to be happy, fulfilled, and confident members of society who can reach their full potential. To achieve this we teach a subject-based curriculum where key skills and 2014 revised National Curriculum programs of study are taught side by side to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for our children.
At Stirchley, foundation subjects are taught discretely to ensure that our children are receiving broad and equal coverage of each subject area. Often these subjects are broken down into separate topics to provide a context for our learners. Teachers at Stirchley Primary School endeavor to teach in a creative and stimulating way to provide our children with interesting and memorable learning experiences. We take the children on regular educational visits to provide inspiring and varied learning opportunities and we regularly invite visitors into school to offer insight from a different perspective.
