In January 2014, Stanburn Primary School was formed as a result of the amalgamation of Stanburn First School and Stanburn Junior School. It is now a thriving and successful four-form entry school that will, by September 2017, have approximately 830 (4-11-year-old) pupils. Our children say that Stanburn is like a big family. It is a school where children feel safe to learn, safe to find their voice, and safe to grow. Children at our school feel confident to explore, be creative, think independently and develop their expertise across a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular areas – both in and outside of school.

Take a walk around on a typical school day and you will see:

• Happily engaged pupils and busy bustling classrooms, with all pupils, actively learning
• A challenging, well-structured, and effective approach to teaching and learning with the capacity to adapt approaches in response to individual children’s learning needs
• Well-behaved, confident and courteous children who, through their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural awareness, show that they uphold positive values and can contribute proudly to our modern British society
• Healthy competition, teamwork, and charitable work encouraged through our well-developed house system
• A weekly celebration of individual, team, and school successes
• Children studying from the National Curriculum and beyond, sometimes learning through single subjects and sometimes in cross-curricular topic lessons

Rich and stimulating learning that extends beyond the classroom including the field, the playground, the environmental areas, and outdoor areas around the classrooms, the local area, and beyond Technology and computing used to enhance learning taught both discretely and integrated within the whole school experience. Finally, and critically, children, parents, and carers are valued partners in everything the school does. You, together with staff and governors, are central in helping us make our motto ‘Belief Achieve Succeed – Learning without limits’ come alive every day for your children.

Our vision of “Belief Achieve Succeed - Learning without limits” is a golden thread that runs through all that we do at Stanburn – no ceiling, no limiting judgments, and an emphasis on effort: that we all keep trying. We have been increasingly linking this to the importance of having a growth mindset - the belief that intelligence is not fixed and can be improved through a combination of effort and targeted support. Research has shown that when we have a growth mindset, we understand that intelligence or abilities can be developed, and instead of worrying about how clever we are or how good we are at something, we focus on improvement. We then work harder, learn more and get smarter or better at doing something. So many examples of this can be seen in action where the children’s positive attitudes, combined with hard work and perseverance, illustrate precisely the sort of values we aim to teach and cultivate at Stanbury.
