St. James is proud to be part of the Woodard family. Founded in 1848 by Priest and educational visionary, Nathaniel Woodard, the family of Woodard schools – independent and maintained, senior and prep, co-educational and single-sex, boarding and day, all share the Founder’s vision of a Christian education coupled with a belief in nurturing and enriching each individual.
The schools all provide the highest academic standards but Woodard schools set themselves apart by also offering an unrivaled effective and supportive environment, where each individual is valued and encouraged to give their very best.
Today, Woodard schools have a sense of ‘faith, unity and vision’ that has never been stronger. St. James’ School is built upon the tenet of family caring, encouraging, supporting, and inspiring. Deliberately small, we passionately believe an extraordinary education is built upon strong, trusting relationships. At St. James’, these are immediately obvious.
Best enjoyed from 2-18, our dynamic curriculum blends seamlessly through our three departments: Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior. Building from ‘ABCs’, 123s’, and arriving at A-Levels, St. James’ pupils are allowed time to follow their passions within an environment that creates opportunities both in the ‘here and now, but also for the future.
Outwardly facing and globally aware, we welcome pupils from across the globe into our school. Boarding remains central to the St. James’ ethos, where the benefits of ‘living your education’ are available to all pupils. Blending a love of learning with the development of ‘character’, at St. James’ our goal is not to educate, but to ‘Future Proof’ securing the qualifications to stand out, building the character to endear, and instilling the core values to succeed.
Do come and see what makes us special a very warm welcome awaits. We help individual pupils to maximize their potential through personalized learning in a caring environment that is rich in opportunity. A Woodard education values both the spiritual and moral development of each person giving strength, confidence, and respect for others. Young people from all faiths and traditions, or none at all, flourish in the rich, diverse culture of our schools enabling them to lead full and creative adult lives.
The Woodard family of schools provides many inter-school opportunities, the sharing of best practices, and a strength and expertise within education. Our pioneering heritage places much emphasis on leadership and management. From attractive, welcoming environments to modern facilities, Woodard schools offer a rich variety of extracurricular activities, professional teaching, and effective pastoral care.
Woodard schools offer a twenty-first-century education rooted in the vision of the founder. A vision that challenges those that believe education is simply a matter of teaching and learning certain facts. The education of the whole person, to foster the unique potential of each individual, is the Woodard way.
