St Margaret's Lee is a one-form entry school (one class per year group), with a nursery providing part-time places for three- to four-year-olds. This is our mission statement, and it sums up what we stand for as a school community:

• We go the extra mile.

We are a Church of England primary school and our values-based ethos helps to communicate to children and the wider community the importance of Christ's teaching and model for living. We strive to nurture these values in our children every day.

In our school achievement reviews over the past five years, Lewisham local authority has consistently categorized us as an 'outstanding' school. This judgment is based on pupil achievement, quality of teaching, behavior, and safety, leadership and management, and overall effectiveness. In November 2014, the Ofsted inspection team judged us to be outstanding in all areas. We have an excellent teaching team, an active governing body and parents' association (called the Friends of St Margaret's Lee), and strong links with St Margaret's Church.

Our class teachers and teaching assistants are highly dedicated, and the quality of their teaching shows in the progress and attainment of the children. But we have other ways of judging the teaching quality across the school too. Headteacher Mr. Wilson and Deputy Headteacher Mrs. Bushell provide regular in-class support and feedback to teachers, as well as monitoring planning, marking, and the classroom environment to help ensure consistently high standards. Key leading teachers and subject leaders provide another layer of support and challenge to ensure that new teachers very quickly become excellent teachers. Parents' responses to our recent questionnaire overwhelmingly confirm that children are taught well (84% strongly agree 15% agree that 'My child is taught well at this school', based on 103 responses).

Behavior in this school is excellent and children feel safe. We have child-friendly policies and procedures around behavior and safety and we give our staff clear guidance and training in child protection, first aid, and anti-bullying, making sure our standards are consistently high.

As well as actively leading teaching and learning, another key to our success is the open communication we have with parents and carers. Whether it's in the playground before or after school, through the weekly newsletter, or over the phone, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential and it's something we are particularly proud of. Our senior leaders are assisted by an active governing body that challenges and supports them in areas such as curriculum and standards, finance, premises, admissions, and human resources.
