Welcome to St John’s College, an independent day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 2 – 18, located in the heart of Southsea. We exist to affirm Lasallian values, fostering and celebrating the gifts and talents of every individual and preparing them to make a positive contribution to our community and the wider global society.
We are not selective by academic ability and can offer a rounded education, providing opportunities for students through an extensive range of activities. We are also proud of our international links and, as the only independent Boarding School in Portsmouth, we offer a truly international education experience from which all our students, day and boarding, benefit.

The College was founded in 1908 by a Lasallian community of brothers and established according to the principles of John Baptist De La Salle, the patron saint of teachers. Today, although, we are no longer part of the De la Salle trust, we remain true to our Lasallian values, providing an education based on respect for all, quality relationships, and an inclusive, collaborative community.
We celebrate diversity and welcome the international dimension they bring to our boarding community, and indeed school life. Located on the South Coast just 1.5 hours from Heathrow and Gatwick airports and with excellent public transport links, the College is conveniently placed for our international and UK families alike.
The College offers its teaching and support staff a supportive, varied, and a dynamic environment encouraging its employees to play a part in the strong, rounded education it gives its students. As a boarding school, the staff is given plenty of opportunities to get involved in school life beyond the curriculum, sharing their interests with students from all over the world.
