We are an ambitious academic sixth form whose aim is to ensure that every student fulfills their potential. We achieve this through excellent teaching and learning in the classroom and regular robust assessments throughout all courses which allows both teacher and student to measure the progress being made in chosen subjects and fill any gaps in knowledge and understanding.
Our excellent exam results at both A-Level and Vocational Level 3 courses provide evidence of our success. National statistics show, that on average, students achieve more than half a grade higher at the Southern Consortium Sixth Form.
Progress rates to University are outstanding, with more than 85% of students leaving us to join University or start an Apprenticeship. Of those that progress to University, more than one in four attend Russell Group Universities. We have strong links with several high-status Higher Education institutions, such as the University of the Arts London and Kings College. Our students have the opportunity to participate in several prestigious aspiration programs, such as K+, receiving mentoring regarding their chosen career paths.
We also appreciate that it is important that students are provided with opportunities to develop a wide range of skills that are valued by both Universities and employers alike. Our Enhancement program includes the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Young Enterprise, Sports Leaders, Paired Reading, as well as charitable activities, such as First Give.
All students that join the Southern Consortium Sixth Form are supported by a well-staffed sixth form team. As well as your Form Tutor, you will also have regular contact with the sixth form Vice-Principal and Assistant Head of Sixth Form, as well as the Higher Education Co-ordinator, and for some students, who require additional support, an Academic Mentor.

All Year 12 students select an Enhance Programme option to complement their core course offer (of either A’ level subjects or Vocational level 3 Extended Diploma). There is a well-developed program of additional activities and events to enhance student learning. By selecting an Enhance Programme option, we can ensure that students leave the Consortium equipped to succeed in higher education, employment, and as adult members of our society.
We are incredibly proud of the provision of support we offer all our students to enrich their skills, knowledge, and confidence to make informed choices about their future and minimize barriers to access Higher Education.
Personalized guidance is fundamental in our approach and the quality of this is a result of establishing strong links and partnerships with Russell Group and research-intensive universities. As such, our students are invited and selected to partake in a range of prestigious pre-university programs, which have led to successful applications at competitive universities, and, for some, conditional grade offers have been lowered. All students making applications are fully supported through the process by our Higher Education coordinators.
The A-level Art and Design course are designed to introduce students to a variety of experiences exploring a range of media, processes, and techniques. Great emphasis is put upon developing the creative and expressive content of students' artwork as the course proceeds. An integral part of the course is to explore and learn from the art traditions, styles, and skills of contemporary and historical artists and art movements.
For Component 2, students respond to a stimulus, provided by the exam board, to produce work that provides evidence of their ability to work independently within specified time constraints. For both components, students are expected to explore an in-depth journey of ideas in response to their chosen brief/topic, which leads to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes.
To develop into higher education, it is very important to have strong mathematical skills. Studying A-level Mathematics supports other A-level subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computing, Geography, Psychology, and Economics. Studying Mathematics and Further Mathematics, (known as ‘facilitating’ subjects) is a way to make your university application stand out. These are highly recognized by Russell Group universities. Employers value students who study Mathematics, as they develop to become better at thinking logically and analytically. Through problem-solving, students develop resilience and can think creatively and strategically. Individuals with good Mathematical skills and qualifications are both well paid and experience rewarding careers.
