The IUIL (Institut Universitaire International Luxembourg) was founded by the Grand-Ducal Act of the 22nd April 974 and is attached to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Its mission is to develop adult training programs in close collaboration with academic and economic partners in the field. Since September 2015, its headquarters are in the Maison du Savoir on Esch Belval:
The geographical merging of the IUIL, the University of Luxembourg, the Fonds National de la Recherche, and other actors of the higher education in the Belval area allows more comfortable and better cooperation between those institutions.
The IUIL is an institution missioned by the MESR (Ministry for Higher Education Research) responsible for continuous adult education. Its mission is to help organizations to develop by proposing adapted continuous training programs for their employees.
In cooperation with companies of different sectors, the IUIL has initiated a few research & development projects focusing on applied research.
The primary objective of these projects is to develop practical and implementable methods and tools which will add value to the participating enterprises. One of ISIL's most important objectives is that, as an outcome of its research projects, the results of these projects can be implemented by the Luxembourgish socio-economic situation.
The participating enterprises will thus be enabled to improve their performance or even to follow new managerial approaches or enhance their current one. Moreover, the research concepts are not only based on an experimental approach but are always closely aligned with the demand and the needs of the companies or institutions involved.
Therefore the IUIL is not pursuing a theoretical approach in its research projects, but instead taking into account the companies' real-life situation.
The projects on applied research are usually financed by the Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche (MESR) as well as by national or European institutions.
Population aging will cause multiple changes in the labor market in the coming 10 to 20 years. The impact of demographic evolution on the functioning of companies is a subject still entirely neglected by decision-makers in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. However, it is time to consider it in order to ensure the competitiveness of each organization.
The IUIL would like to support companies in their reflections on the effects of population aging. That is why we have organized the conference "Génération 50+" in February 2014 to raise awareness for the topic by presenting some practical examples of companies that have set up a series of actions to manage and integrate people above a certain age effectively. Due to the massive interest in the discussed issues, the IUIL decided to elaborate on the topic. Consequently, an online survey has been established. It addresses Luxembourg's organizations intending to find out more about how they prepare themselves for the upcoming challenges associated with the demographic change. The ultimate goal is to develop and offer accompanying measures.
We guarantee that all information collected through the survey is treated confidentially, and answers will be anonymized.

Faced with the rise in unemployment and the disappearance of many salaried jobs, Luxembourg needs to reinforce its active population's adaptability to remain competitive. The socio-economic changes and life-long development of competences are essential not only to guarantee sustainable employability of the active population but also to enable job-seekers to re-enter the employment market.
The goal of the project "Qualiform" is to reflect on the means to install that will guarantee a better quality of the adult training programs in Luxembourg. Up to now, two scientific studies have been conducted in order to identify potential solutions directly applicable "on the ground".
Whereas the first study concentrated on the competencies of the trainer, the second one focuses more on the influence of the working environment and the role of the learner.
