We hope it will give you a flavor of life at our school and a sense of what we value. We encourage, inspire and challenge our pupils to ‘learn together, grow together and succeed together to ensure that every child reaches their full potential, is happy, and ready for life beyond our Primary School. We have expanded due to popular demand and are now a two-form entry school up to year 4. We also have an Autistic Specialist Unit with two classrooms. We pride ourselves on the inclusive nature of our school with our autistic pupils. Despite the increase in size, we maintain our small school caring and nurturing environment.

We have a highly committed and skilled team of staff, who work tirelessly to make sure that our children receive excellent care, meeting all their academic, social, and emotional health needs. We are particularly proud of the efforts our Year 6 and Year 2 pupils made in their end of Key Stage assessments. Most importantly all pupils at Poverest make good levels of progress, regardless of their starting point.

As recognized by Ofsted, we are very much a community school and our families are welcome as much as possible. This partnership was part of the reason why our ‘Outstanding’ EYFS was nominated for an award by the TES. At the heart of our school is a commitment to promote shared values helping us to be responsible, respectful, kind, and caring members of our community.

We are extremely proud of the varied opportunities that are offered to pupils across the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities. The impressive range of extra-curricular activities is constantly changing and currently includes cross country, boxing, jujitsu, chess, art, glee club, music lessons, football, and homework club to name but a few.

Our pupils have opportunities to learn through a wide range of educational visits and events, including residential trips in Years 2, 4, and 6. There is a shared drive to constantly review, improve and enrich our curriculum to ensure learning is relevant and exciting for all pupils.

At Poverest we follow the National Curriculum through teaching some subjects discretely and some through topics linked to the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). We create as many cross-curricular links as possible whilst ensuring that we meet the statutory requirements creatively and engagingly. We adapt the curriculum where possible to the children’s interests and what is going on in the world. To motivate, inspire and broaden children’s life experiences every half term, every child has a range of trips and visits, as well as exciting themed/experience days supporting their learning.

Our vision is that all at Poverest Primary School inspire, challenge, and nurture the pupils in our care. We aim to provide a happy, caring, and stimulating learning environment which enables them to learn, grow and succeed as well as equipping them with skills for their future after they have left our care.
