The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organize to promote learning and personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum but also the range of extra-curricular activities that the school organizes to enrich the experiences of the children. It also includes the promotion of the school values of excellence, inspiration, determination, courage, friendship, respect and equality, and the children’s understanding of rights. Building Learning Power develops lifelong learning skills and a positive attitude to learning. Our curriculum supports children to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills so that they can achieve their true potential.

The aims of the curriculum are:

• To enable all children to learn and develop their skills to the best of their ability.
• To promote a positive attitude towards learning, so that children enjoy coming to school and acquire a solid basis for lifelong learning.
• To teach children the basic skills of literacy, numeracy, science, and computing.
• To enable children to be creative and to think for themselves.
• To enable children to recognize and utilize their own best learning styles.
• To teach children about their developing world, including how their environment and society have changed over time.
• To help children understand Britain’s cultural heritage.
• To enable children to be positive citizens in their community and wider society.
• To fulfill all the requirements of the National Curriculum and the locally agreed syllabus for religious education.
• To help children understand the importance of truth and fairness so that they grow up committed to equal opportunities for all.
• To enable children to have respect for themselves and high self-esteem, and to be able to live and work cooperatively with others.

Our curriculum will be provided through:

• Classroom themes
• Subject lessons
• Activities outside the classroom.
• The values promoted by the school and its community.
• The context in which our pupils live, both locally, nationally, and globally
• Staff will link subjects wherever appropriate and relevant the curriculum will not be constrained by subject boundaries much of the work will be cross-curricular, with an emphasis on learning English and maths skills, which will be practiced and reinforced in cross-curricular work. Some subjects that do not fit into the theme will be taught discretely.

At Plymouth Grove, we love the internet. We learn all the creative, fascinating, and fun things that we can do when using the internet as safe and responsible citizens. We also know that sometimes, through no fault of our own, things can go wrong and we learn in school what we must do if it ever happens.

Plymouth Grove Primary School aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure, and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015’ and implements policies, practices, and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well-being of children, young people, and staff.

The school is committed to supporting the delivery of effective early help through multi-agency working, a consistent application of the thresholds, and the use of a single agency assessment. The Manchester Early Help Assessment process is embedded into everyday practice and procedures when responding to children’s needs and signposts children and families to appropriate preventative services. The children have access to appropriate curriculum opportunities, including emotional health and well-being, to support the development of the skills needed to help them stay safe and healthy, develop their self-esteem and understand the responsibilities of adult life, particularly regarding childcare and parenting skills.

Access to cross-curricular activities will provide opportunities to develop self-esteem and self-motivation and to help pupils respect the rights of others, particularly those groups who may be considered a minority. Plymouth Grove Primary School will exercise diligence and prevent any organization or speaker from using the school's facilities to disseminate extremist views or radicalize pupils and staff.

We are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of our pupils so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our school. If bullying does occur, all pupils should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. We are a TELLING school. This means that anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell the staff.

Plymouth Grove Primary school has an excellent reputation for providing high-quality dining services for both staff and pupils. All the meals are freshly prepared daily in our school kitchen. The meals are nutritionally balanced and meet the government school guidelines and food standards. Healthy eating is at the very heart of Plymouth Grove’s approach to catering. We encourage pupils to eat healthily and provide foods that promote concentration, energy, and well-being.
