Inspired by the purpose and achievements of The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), LIPA Sixth Form College focuses on acting, dance, music, sound technology, and production arts. Our students work towards achieving nationally recognized University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma qualifications, while at the same time benefiting from excellent teaching and the breadth of professional industry experience.

LIPA Sixth Form College is a Free School for 16-18-year-olds, funded by the Department for Education, and open to students from Liverpool and the surrounding area. We offer University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma courses in a range of creative and performing arts disciplines, leading to nationally recognized qualifications.

Influenced by the LIPA ethos of collaborative working across all disciplines and our emphasis on project-based learning, we can provide what you need to prepare for a wide range of creative and performing arts futures.

We are one of a handful of Further Education providers in England to focus specifically on the creative and performing arts. As a local Sixth Form College, most of our students come from Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area. Our new, purpose-rebuilt facilities are located at 70 Hope Street within the LIPA campus in Liverpool’s city center and include a studio theatre, recording studio, music technology suites, dance and drama studios, music rehearsal rooms, and a scenic design and construction studio.

Having been oversubscribed since opening in September 2016. At the interview and audition, we will look at your existing abilities and experience, but we will be just as interested in your potential to build on what you have done and to develop your skills with us.

"Put simply, our purpose is your progression either to work or further learning". To achieve this, we provide a unique combination of creative and performing arts qualifications, within a specialist setting.

We offer professional excellence and experience through industry-related training opportunities that will develop your performance, design, or technical skills and experience. On completion of your studies, you will be ready to move onto Higher Education or into work within the creative and performing arts.

As a small but specialized Sixth Form College, we encourage performers and those who make performance possible to work harmoniously and creatively together. This synergy can't be taken for granted, since everyone has a different way of reacting to the world around them. Interpersonal skills, like persuasion, negotiation, and understanding how groups can work well, are critical. The collaboration here between our student body of performers, producers, designers, and technicians replicates industry practice, where they want to be. Our values:

All Lipa Sixth Form College students follow a two-year University of the Arts (UAL) LEVEL 3 Extended Diploma Programme. Students will choose one to study one creative or performing arts discipline from Acting, Dance, Music, Sound Technology, or Production Arts. Each course balances theory and practice in an exciting, engaging, and inspirational way.

Our University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma qualifications (each equivalent to three A-Levels) are designed to meet the demands of the creative and performing arts economy, whether your interest is in performing, working creatively (such as in set design) or in technical production.

Successful completion of these courses equips you with the skills, knowledge, and understanding to progress to studying your chosen discipline within a Higher Education setting, or to go into work.
