Levenshulme High School is an Outstanding school that is a truly multicultural and diverse community of learners, staff, and families – underpinned by our Cooperative values. As such, we are proud holders of the International Values-based Education Trust’s Quality Mark – which recognizes the impact of the school’s culture, ethos, and values on the achievement and wellbeing of the young women in our care. We are part of the Education and Leadership Trust, which is a small multi-academy trust comprised of ourselves and 2 other Manchester high schools – Whalley Range 11-18 High School and The East Manchester Academy.
This is an ambitious school that sets high expectations of staff and students alike, challenging and supporting everyone to be the best that they can be so that, by working hard together, we can achieve our dreams. Applications to Levenshulme High School are made directly to the school or via the Local Authority (LA) – our local authority is Manchester City Council. The school follows the Council’s admission rules.
We are fully committed to providing a broad, balanced, inspiring, and challenging curriculum for all our young people which equips them with high quality, relevant qualifications, skills, qualities, and attributes to give them choices, a sense of ambition, and able to make a positive contribution as a 21st-century global citizen.
We are very proud of the broad and balanced curriculum we offer to all of our students. At Key Stage 3, we are committed to building on the skills learned at primary school to ensure all students make rapid progress. Above all, our curriculum is designed to provide appropriate challenges to all students and foster an enjoyment of learning. Students also develop their reading, writing, and communication skills, their abilities to organize their work, and to work cooperatively with others.
Our curriculum is structured around a one-week timetable with each day consisting of five one-hour lessons. Each school day begins with a tutorial session with every student having a personal tutor to provide academic and personal development support.
In Years 10 and 11, we offer a wide range of courses alongside our core curriculum of English, maths, science, ethics, philosophy, and religion, and PE. There is a range of GCSE qualifications and other accredited courses to meet the needs of all our students and each course offered has a clear progression pathway to Post-16 education and employment.
We place a strong emphasis on ensuring academic rigor with our curriculum because of this, we can offer the vast majority of our students the opportunity to gain the English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) qualification.
The Internet and online technologies are an important part of children’s lives at home and school, providing great learning opportunities, communicating, playing, and creating. As we know, these technologies create huge opportunities for us all, however, they can sometimes be a bit overwhelming and present challenges to keeping your family safe online.
At Levenshulme High School safety education is delivered in the ICT curriculum and is enforced by the school’s Unacceptable Use Policy. The school employs a multi-layered internet filtering system, and desktop monitoring software to further ensure that where possible students are prevented from coming in to contact with unsuitable content.
We want to make sure that students are supported during their move from primary school to life here at Levenshulme. We have a range of events taking place across the year for students to get to know the school, as well as for parents to come in and find out everything you need to know.
This is an extremely important time of year for Year 6’s. You should have had your place in a secondary school and be contacting your given high school to accept your place. Once your place has been accepted, you will be sent out information from your high school.
The parent/child relationship is the foundation to keeping children safe and supporting their social development and educational attainment. Parenting can be a challenging task. Maintaining a positive relationship can sometimes be difficult as children grow and develop and seek an identity that may be different from their own family. Children and young people have a natural curiosity which as parents/carers we want to encourage. However, as our children grow up we have to take different steps to ensure their safety. Currently, several young girls and boys have been persuaded to leave the country against the wishes of their families, or in secret, putting themselves in extreme danger. This information is designed to help parents/carers keep their children safe and explains how they should respond if they have a concern.
