Kaizen Primary School is a very dynamic place to learn. We value learning through experience learning core skills in ways that are memorable and enable the children to apply these skills in all aspects of life. We very much value children as leaders of themselves, others, and valuable contributors to the local community.
There is a warm and friendly atmosphere at our school, which we are all very proud of At Kaizen, we take pride in being an INCLUSIVE learning organization that is INNOVATIVE, CREATIVE, and REFLECTIVE.
Our very special school deserves a special name – hence Kaizen. It’s a Japanese word, which means making continuous improvement to your life by putting effort in every day. We talk to the children every day about their continuous learning journey. Each day is an important one as they take small steps towards big dreams.
Learning is central to everything at Kaizen even our class names such as, Smiles, Chuckles, Discover, Explore, Voyage, Journey, Adventure, Challenge, Investigate, Curiosity, Inquisitive, Innovation, Inspiration, Imagination, Endeavour, and Wisdom, tell you what learning is like here.
The curriculum at Kaizen motivates the children to ask questions, see connections between things, and enables the children to be self-reflective about the world around them. With these high levels of engagement and the outstanding levels of care and support the children receive, means the children achieve the highest possible standards.
We have a wide range of after-school clubs on offer too, as well as Breakfast Club and After School Club, in our Aspiration building. As well as supporting working parents and those in full-time education this provision enables children to build wider social links in the safe environment of the school.
We plan for the learning styles of all children, recognizing that we all learn in different ways We involve the community in our work - we've got a very popular Toddlers Group, adult learning classes, and Parent Forums, and Big Breakfast.
We make full use of ICT through interactive boards, digital film, and photographs to enhance learning for all. Our children have access to iPads, LearnPads, and Core i5 Laptops. We have developed a curriculum based specifically on the children’s needs at Kaizen Primary School. We're developing a learning curriculum so we assess and teach not only subjects in the national curriculum, but also how we learn.
Children learn by experiencing and investigating. We place great emphasis on learning outdoors, so learning is everywhere in school and the local Community. Children reflect on their achievements each week. Staff is involved in their reflections each week with each other. We stop at many points in our school year and think about how we're doing and ask for your opinions.
We pride ourselves on having outstanding teaching and learning of reading, which is core to all of our wider curricular learning. All our children experience at least 6 Educational Visits per year, which link into their wider projects back at school. These visits range from going to the Theatre, sightseeing in London and museum visits, to local area walks and excursions. We work closely with the Big Foot Theatre Company that offers cross-curricular learning through drama and role play.
