Ferryside Primary School

Ferryside is a voluntary, controlled, primary, co-educational day school. Built in 1856, it is a traditional grey stone Victorian building situated at the center of the seaside village of Ferryside, which is approximately three miles from the town of Kidwelly and nine miles from Carmarthen. The catchment area roughly covers the parish of St Ishmael’s, including Ferryside, Llansaint, St Ishmael’s, Broadway, and Broadway.

Two classes are located in the main building. There are two pre-fabricated buildings at the rear of the school: one is the dining area whilst the other houses two classrooms. Foundation Phase pupils are taught in one classroom. The other is a multi-purpose room being used as a hall and resource area. The After-School Club meets three evenings a week in this room.

Our outdoor play and work areas are continually developed, with a grassed area at the front of the school and raised beds for growing flowers and vegetables, which supports our Healthy Eating and Eco projects.

The school’s principal aim is to allow every pupil to develop to his/her full potential intellectually, culturally, emotionally, socially, and physically. To achieve this aim, we will endeavor

• To develop a lively inquisitive mind to gain understanding, knowledge, and skills to prepare them for adult life
• To develop skills in all areas and subjects taught at the school
• To enable children to participate fully in a society where Welsh and English are used as modes of communication and to further understanding and respect towards the heritage and culture of Wales
• To develop personal moral values, respect for religious values, and tolerance of other races, religions, and ways of life
• To create a close link between the home and the school to enable parents and teachers to work together for the benefit of every pupil
• To create an awareness of the need for personal hygiene, good manners, and courtesy
• To promote safe practices at the school, in the home, and society in general.
