As part of my commitment to raising standards, we are excited to deliver a bespoke curriculum linked to the full statutory national curriculum. All pupils at Dersingham will have the opportunity to learn to speak a language, learn to play an instrument, learn to swim and visit many places of interest. Preparing pupils for life in Modern Britain and the demands of the 21st Century is a key focus. This means that we have a strong emphasis on using technology as a learning tool and that all of our children have access to a range of technology, including the use of netbooks and tablets

At Dersingham we are committed to providing enjoyable, engaging, and stimulating learning experiences, which will enable all pupils to be successful, regardless of their age, gender, disability, ethnicity, or social group.
At Dersingham Primary School we follow the London Borough of Newham Guidelines for inclusive Support in line with the National Code of Practice for the identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs. The teaching style of the school is one of striving to ensure that individual children have their educational needs met. Pupils who are identified as having Special Educational Needs may be supported on an individual basis, in small groups, or within the class through the differentiation of the curriculum.
All members of staff and governors accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social, and academic needs within a caring environment. As with every child in our care, a child who is considered to be ‘socially disadvantaged’ is valued, respected, and entitled to develop his/her full potential, irrespective of need.
The pupil premium targets extra funding for pupils from deprived backgrounds. Research shows these students underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers. The premium is provided to support these pupils to reach their potential.
The Government has used pupils entitled to free school meals (FSM), children of service personnel, and children looked after as an indicator for deprivation and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based upon the number registered for FSM. At Dersingham Primary School, we will be using the indicator of those eligible for FSM as our target children to ‘diminish the difference’ regarding attainment and progress.
