Cyril Jackson is an ambitious, successful, and inclusive community school with a national and international reputation for providing a high standard of education. Our staff is highly committed, hardworking, and motivated. We have limitless expectations for our pupils and ourselves, and we strive for excellence in all that we do. The school is a unique place and is regularly described as warm, friendly, and welcoming.
Our diverse curriculum lays the foundations for every child to succeed, and we offer an inspiring combination of opportunities, outstanding pastoral care, and high expectations, all delivered within a happy, safe, and supportive environment. Our monitoring systems carefully track pupils’ progress, and we ensure that targeted and personalized learning is promptly and appropriately introduced. Pupils are actively involved in decisions about their learning and wellbeing. In our caring and stimulating atmosphere, students are inspired to reach their full potential - intellectually, physically, spiritually, and ethically.
At Cyril Jackson, all our children will study the 2014 National Curriculum for both core and foundation stage subjects. In the Foundation Stage children will experience the seven areas of learning that are required. These areas underpin the organization of the learning environment the activities provided for children and the monitoring of children's progress and development.
In Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, children are taught all the elements of the newly required syllabus of the 2014 National Curriculum for both core (English, Maths, and Science) and foundation subjects (history, geography, music, art, physical education (PE), design technology and religious education). At Cyril Jackson, we have worked hard to ensure that the change to the new national curriculum has been smooth and through our planning, we have endeavored to ensure that all learning is matched to the individual needs of our children. As far as possible a cross-curricular, thematic approach is used to teach the ‘core’ and ‘foundation’ subjects. A theme is selected and applied across a year group each term. By adding this dimension to learning we can provide opportunities for key skills to develop across the curriculum and to cultivate creative thinking.
There are times when some children need additional support during their school life. Through our special needs program, and with assistance from parents/carers, outside agencies, and local special schools, we endeavor to identify promptly a child’s particular needs, so that individual programs can be provided when appropriate.
Cyril Jackson has been designated as a school specializing in meeting Speech and Language needs. We have 20 identified children who travel from across the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to work in classes across the whole age range and receive additional help from speech therapists. This is of huge benefit to the school as a whole because it helps the development of every child by providing a greater understanding of language.
We ensure that problems are identified as early as possible - the earlier action is taken the more quickly support can be given. If a child has been identified as having a special educational need, they will have full access to the National Curriculum. Partnership work with parents/carers is crucial in this process. The school endeavors to make all adjustments to ensure every pupil has access to all aspects of school life.
Pupils attain the highest levels of achievement, of which they are capable, by being offered a safe, inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment. Irrespective of need, pupils are included in all aspects of school life and are encouraged to be independent and responsible citizens ready for the challenges of a changing future.
Pupils are aware of their own needs, whilst also being respectful and understanding of the needs of others around them. They encourage and support each other to succeed in their learning and to develop their confidence, self-esteem, and future aspirations.
