Cyfarthfa Park Primary School is in Merthyr Tydfil. The school was formed in September 2014 when Brecon Road Infant school and Cyfarthfa Junior school amalgamated. The school operates on two separate sites that are approximately half a mile apart. There are 450 pupils on roll aged 3 to 11, including 62 part-time pupils in the nursery class.
The school's curriculum follows statutory requirements and the requirements of the Foundation Phase and National Curriculum. It is balanced and broadly based, and promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of our pupils and society, and prepares our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life.
Pupils are expected to acquire skills in speaking and listening literacy, and numeracy skills. PSE reflects the school's aims and ethos. This includes an emphasis upon community cohesion. Religious education is also provided for all pupils. Appropriate programs of activity for pupils who are above or below the compulsory school age are planned for and implemented within the school. There is an appropriate program of enterprise education. All pupils are expected to take part in daily collective worship. The worship is mainly broadly Christian, but it is not distinctive of a particular Christian denomination.
Parents have a right to withdraw their children from acts of collective worship. Parents should inform the head in writing if they wish to withdraw their child from collective worship. The school aims to ensure that students with disabilities are not treated less favorably than other students and will endeavor to ensure that no exclusion of such a student has been caused directly or indirectly by the student’s disability. Any exclusion of a student with a disability will be closely monitored both within the school and by the governors’ Discipline Committee.
The school will continue to provide education for an excluded student (whilst he/she remains on a roll) and, particularly in the case of an exclusion of more than 15 days, the Head in consultation with the Local Authority relevant members of staff will aim to put in place plans to address the pupil’s problems and secure their continuing education. The school will review the pupil’s progress and determine how the student’s education can otherwise continue.
