We hope to forge a strong partnership that will support you and your child’s needs here at Chirnside Primary. In our school, we follow a broad, balanced curriculum as recommended by Council and National Guidelines. We aim to develop each child’s potential and extend every opportunity for your child to experience success. We share a common aim with you as parents/carers, which is to educate, care and look after the welfare of your child. Our priority is to create a positive and stimulating environment in which our children can fully develop their skills and talents, and where every child is self-confident and happy to be at school, and keen to share their experiences with you at home.
We hope that you will find our website both interesting and enjoyable. In it, we have tried to give you a picture of our school and how we try to meet your child’s needs, and how we support and promote good relationships within our school community. Please remember you are always welcome to come and visit us or consult with our staff if you have any concerns. We have a busy social and academic calendar that will give you lots of opportunities to come and share your children’s success - we hope to see you on many different occasions throughout the year. Enterprise in Education: A Context and Approach in Curricular Delivery
A key focus in curricular planning and delivery will be Enterprise in Education, which aims to develop in children the attitudes, skills, and abilities necessary for active citizenship in a modern Scotland, a key part of which will be the world of work. From P1 – 7, all pupils will experience Enterprise in Education annually both in the form of specific, enterprise projects/activities, and enterprising approaches to the leadership of learning across the curriculum. In this way, we hope that children will have motivating contexts to transfer and consolidate a wide range of knowledge and skills taught in other curricular areas, as well as the opportunity to acquire and develop a range of additional skills and attitudes necessary for life and the world of work. This program will also expose children to a wide range of ways in which responsible citizens contribute to a successful society, thereby broadening their understanding of society and a range of world of work opportunities. We will seek to do this in partnership with parents, the local community, and business partners.
A key capacity for success in the modern world will be the ability to learn throughout life. In a world where knowledge will become outdated at an increasing rate, it will be essential to know HOW to learn new skills, abilities, and knowledge. Consequently, at Chirnside, all children, from P1-7, will be taught a wide range of strategies and skills on how to learn. Many of these will be subject-specific, while others will be common to learning generally.
