Bedwas Infants is an English medium community Infants School catering for children between the ages of 3 and 7. There is a Nursery class offering part-time provision and 4 other Foundation Phase classes, two of which have mixed year groups.

At the start of the session, Nursery children are met by their teacher at the classroom door. The cloakroom doors and the main side gate remain locked throughout the session. At the end of the session, the children remain with the teacher in the classroom until the Teaching Assistants see the child’s parents at the side gate near the front door.

All of the other children are taken by their parents to the door of their classroom and once all the pupils are in the doors are closed. At the end of the day, the parents assemble on the patio areas outside their child’s classroom and the teachers allow the children to go only after seeing that their parents are there. Any child not collected will be kept in school and the parents contacted by telephone. Parents are asked to inform the school if anyone other than the people authorized to do so is to collect their child.

All-access to school during school hours must be via the school main entrance door entry intercom system. Visitors are requested to report to the office on arrival and appropriate identification is sought. Visitors also sign a book in the school foyer. For health and safety reasons we also request that children do not ride bikes or scooters on school premises. They should dismount at the gate and push their bikes/ scooters along.
